Chapter 1 - Midnight

You walked down the street heading home after a blind date your friend set you up with. She knew you needed someone who wasn't a girl to comfort you, for you times were hard emotionally. Your dad had recently been murdered and five years before that your mom passed away from cancer. You were broken and lost, not only that but you realized the woman you called mom wasn't actually your mom, neither was your dad. He left you a note in his room in case he passed before you found out. It said that he and your mother had found you in an ally in a gold sheet crying. After you found that out everything became to much, you were depressed, you hurt yourself intentionally and pushed people away. Lost in thought of these events you shivered and bumped into someone.
"So sorry sir!" You kept your head down and the man replied in a deep yet light voice with a beautiful British accent.
"That's alright, are you alright?" The man turned and you look up and made eye contact with two blue-green orbs and studied his face. He has very pronounced cheekbones, thin lips, he's pale, and has raven coloured hair that is slightly longer than his shoulders. He reaches for your shoulder and you flinch away. "I do not mean to bring you harm, I just simply wish to know if you are alright..." Even though the man frightened you, you couldn't stop looking at him, he was gorgeous, he was perfect.
"Oh, um, yeah, sorry, and sorry again for earlier..." He smiled and flashed his perfect white teeth.
"Again it's quite alright. Are you sure your okay? You don't at least want me to walk you home? You know people have been killed in town." That was too much for you right then, the images of your fathers corpse that you had to identify, the letter, you broke down and cried, almost falling to the ground, but luckily the man was there to catch you.

--LOKI'S POV--
I took her in my arms, she was so broken, so lost, as she cried I had to use my strength to fight back tears of my memories of this feeling. I brushed a few tears off her cheek with my thumb. I felt for her, I can't explain it, finally she got enough strength back to talk to me again.
"Actually, if you wouldn't mind, I would love company on my way home..." She blinked her teary (e/c) eyes at me, "by the way, my names (y/n)." I helped her up and shook her hand.
"Loki, Loki Laufeyson." She smiled sweetly as I accompanied her to her living quarters. As we got to her front door a pang hit me hard in the stomach, this was a pain unlike anything I felt before, what was this?

--READER POV--
Once you got home, you had the strangest feeling, you didn't want the man leave. Or as he addressed him self, Loki, god where did you hear that name before. Any ways, you wanted him to bring up an excuse to stay, but he didn't. He bid you farewell and you called after him.
"Uh, Loki!?" He turned quickly. "It's late why don't you stay? I have an extra bedroom you can sleep in." But you wouldn't mind sharing a bed either. He ran back up to you.
"You want me to stay the night?" You nod, and he smiles mischievously and his eyes twinkle with the same mischief that made you shiver, but you shook it off and let your self and your unexpected guest in and showed him to his room.
"You can sleep here if you'd like, sorry it's messy, it used to be my dads, er, Paul's room..."
"Why did you call you father Paul?"
"Because he's, well he wasn't actually my dad..."
"Wasn't?" He asked quietly.
"He, he got killed... Not to long ago..." He frowns and you cross your arms over your chest. "Well... I'm going to take a shower... There's food in the kitchen if you'd like..." He nodded and you left to take your shower.

--LOKI'S POV--
I decided to stay in the room while (y/n) was bathing. I looked over at the desk in the corner and found a note on it and decided to indulge myself in the mans last thoughts. But as I read it I realized that this was no journal nor diary, this was a letter he had written for (y/n). I read every word, every line, over and over to make sure what I was reading was what he had written down. She had been lied to her whole life, just like me, she found out at the worse time possible, much like me, she had anger and hate and frustration and sorrow boiling inside her, just like me. But the one thing that was different, she was mortal, I'm not, and another, I could feel love in her, none of that is in me, I'm nothing but a monster. I heard the water turn off and I just stood there staring down that letter. Finally, (y/n) came out, her (h/c) hair messed about from being towel dried. She saw the note I was holding and she gave me a sorrowful look and retired to her chambers. Why did this hurt me? To see her sad, it was like my heart was being ripped out of my chest stomped on then placed back once again. I wanted her to know I understand her, but how?

--READER POV--
You left the bathroom only in a towel, hoping your guest decided to get some food but you knew he didn't. You looked at him and saw the piece of paper in his hand, the note your father had written, you frowned at him and went to you room and got dressed in your pajamas. Once you were in your long shirt that was just short of you knees, you left your room in search of something sweet.
"I really should've gone to the grocery store to day," you mumbled to yourself as you looked through the pantry and decided to grab the big container of Nutella and you grabbed a spoon and leaned against the counter as you ate. You jumped when you hear someone clear their throat and you spun around with the spoon in your mouth.
"Sorry," phew. It was only Loki, "I wanted to tell you that I understand what your going through."
"As if," you snorted in reply taking the now empty spoon out of your mouth.
"No really, I do, not too long ago, I myself found out I was adopted, and I know how much it hurts."

--LOKI'S POV--
"...and I know how much it hurts." What in the name of Odin was I thinking?! As if she'd trust me! She has no idea what I could do to her! I could kill her in an instant and she wouldn't even notice! What was this feeling in me! I couldn't stand (y/n) but yet I felt the need to comfort her! It drove me insane!
"Oh really," she finally responded after a long pause.

--READERS POV--
"Oh really," you said kind of annoyed. Suddenly you remembered his name, "where did you say you we're from again?" He looked down, "Loki, where are you from?"
He didn't respond so you went closer to him and put a hand on his shoulder and he slowly looked up at you frowning. Trying to be nice you swept a few stray strands of his raven hair out of his face and smiled sweetly.

--LOKI'S POV--
Once her soft fingers brushed the hair out of my face it was over, everything came out, it was like I couldn't control it.
"I'm from Asgard, Odin, my father, no, not my father, he told me I was adopted only AFTER I found out! I'm nothing but a monster! I destroyed the bifrost, I tried to take over Midgard! I only wanted to belong, only wanted to be Thor's equal!" I snarl most of what I say and by the end of my rant I collapse into (y/n) tears spilling out of my eyes, I clung to her, a snivelling fool.

--READER POV--
After he had gotten of whatever was on his chest, he collapsed, onto you, you could tell he was crying and you tried to comfort him. You slowly sat on the ground and rubbed his back with one hand and ran your fingers through his hair and sung softly no words in particular, you just sang syllables. Hoping it would comfort him. You still feared this man, you were still afraid Loki was just playing you, but somewhere deep down inside you felt the need to comfort him, to save him from what he feared.
"Shhh... It's okay..." You felt him cuddle into your neck and your heart beat faster, not knowing what he'd do next.
