Description
WARNING: Spoilers AheadI thought I'd try to find a happy medium between Disney's version of Hunchback and Victor Hugo's original novel. Here, Esmeralda dies, but at least Quasimodo finds some closure. The title is a slight twist on Quasimodo's line in the original novel, in which he exclaims, after both Esmeralda's and Frollo's deaths, that they are "everything I have ever loved." If Esmeralda were to die in Disney's version as she does here, I think Quasimodo would've included only her in that statement, considering how poorly Frollo had treated him his whole life.
As for the kiss, well, it's not exactly canon, but I found it appropriate. Considering the strong relationship between these two and the sacrifices they had made for each other, I think a farewell kiss fits this situation.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996) is property of the Walt Disney Company.

I love this. Its so beautiful and so emotional *sniff* I still don't think the movie would go down so well if Esme died. But it would be a lot more realistic and more like the book. I was like really young when the movie came out so no I understand it a lot more x

Thank you.
I'm torn between the two situations, actually. The notion of her dying is more dramatic, but at the same time, I don't want her to die! Sucks, doesn't it?
Well, in either case, just goes to show how emotionally attached we can be to these characters.

*sees this and realizes I'm not watching you yet*
I love this. You would think that, after all that Quasimodo did for Esmeralda in the novel, that this would be most fitting.

GASP! The apocalypse is upon us!
Just kidding. Thank you very much for the watch.
She could've at least been more appreciative like her Disney counterpart.

The novel was AMAZING! That was the saddest book I've ever read!
As for the kiss, I always wish that happened

Oh, man. Wasn't it, though?
I think it fits considering the situation. These two are beautiful together, romantically or not.
Thank you very much for the comment and the fave.

I never knew Esmeralda actually died in the novel. I was all chocked up when I saw the movie version, and she almost died! Beautiful drawing, it's very moving!

Yeah.... I thought that after all they had been through together, that they needed a moment like this, even if it ended sadly.
Thank you.

Geez-ow man, tough break.
Interesting concept; combining Disneys' version with the original source material.

Tough break, indeed.
Are you familiar with the stage version of Disney's Hunchback? It actually took a darker turn than the movie.

I've never read the book, seen the movie or watched the stage show.

The stage version, from what I gather, kinda takes that same approach in finding a happy medium between the two versions. If it ever comes to the U.S. I'd really like to see it.

Aww, that is so sweet! Beautifully drawn, too. I like Quasi's little tear. It's really easy to make tears look goofy and out of place, but you did really well.
And I like what you did with the whole copyright thing. XD

Thank you. I made sure the tear looked like a trickle, rather than the common "teardrop" shape.
Yep, I'm paranoid... and I don't always trust DA's watermarks to cover the entire piece.

This is such a beautiful picture.
I too have read the book, and it's such a tragic and sad ending.
One of these days I would love to see an illustration of the two skeletons the soldiers found a couple years later in the "hanged man's" graveyard.
One is that of a woman, her neck broken.
The other a male, with a crooked spine, one leg shorter than the other, and a large hump, embracing the skeleton of the woman.
It was evident his neck was not broken...and that he had just come there and died.

You know, I've always wondered what it would look like when these two kissed. Yeah, Esmerelda and Quasi are so cute! I liked her pairing with Phoebus, but this is sweet too.

Heh... thank you. I was a little concerned with how it would look (what with Quasi's relatively large mouth), but I like how it turned out.
For me, it's not so much about pairing them together as it is giving them one last chance to express their feelings.
