As for your questions...
Yeah, I think people will like it. Its a mixed batch, but overall, its enjoyable. However, depending on what order the episodes will be aired (we have them aired in a different order here), it will get progressively darker. What you won't like, and what you should expect, that it ends with a cliffhanger. And a pretty serious one at that.
I haven't worked with, or watch "Star VS The Forces of Evil", so I wouldn't be able to draw comparison between the two.
