Another good aspect is that you do not need as many models for a good army as you would with Orks or the Guard, and they are relatively easy and fast to paint.

Not a bad use for Sophie, I kinda thought about that for a bit, but then decided to play loyalist marines.

Maybe one day I'll indulge in the ruinous powers once more..... probably when the next codex comes out.

From the moment I saw the mini, I knew she was the one
If you want to focus on another army, sure, but do not think this current CSM codex is half bad. I was just comparing the latest two the other day, and the differences are that the new one has less fluff and is more streamlined and balanced. Both are worth the read. I for one am satisfied.

Well the one thing that annoyed me with the current codex is that they got rid of the perks to playing a specific god, as well as the marks or favored of Tzeench rules.

DorianM In reply to Jeffburjr [2010-05-05 07:58:03 +0000 UTC]

Perks for playing monotheistic armies will be sorely missed, but those strange random Tzeench powers... not so much. Then again, If you do lead a mono-army and stick to the holly numbers, the god you chose will help with the dice rolls compensating for the lack of perks

True, it would be nice if they gave the Daemons their proper entries; seeing as the Daemon army idea flopped horrendously. I only know one guy in the whole of the LA area who plays Daemons of Chaos in 40k.

It is not a total flop, it is just not really competitive, but can still be played.

Jeffburjr In reply to DorianM [2010-05-06 04:34:29 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but no one really does, it's usually used as a supplement to Chaos Marines codex.

DorianM In reply to Jeffburjr [2010-05-06 07:56:21 +0000 UTC]

Never saw it used that way here. Though, come to think of it, it is a good idea for friendly games.

It's the next best thing if people wont let you use the 4th edition book.

DorianM In reply to Jeffburjr [2010-05-06 09:16:23 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I like the latest CSM (which is still 4th edition) fine. And even their generic summoned daemons have an edge being able to deep-strike and assault the same turn. This just seems like a potentially fun change.

Jeffburjr In reply to DorianM [2010-05-06 19:28:49 +0000 UTC]

It's the same thing with the Daemon book, only your whole army deep strikes.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DorianM In reply to Jeffburjr [2010-05-06 19:39:08 +0000 UTC]

Actually, it isn't! You could say that the daemons proper are a bit nerfed that way. Only the summoned greater and lesser daemons from the CSM codex can assault when deep-striking, which in combination with two attacks and the fact that they are scoring while taking no FOC slots makes them a very interesting choice.

Kick ass list now that I read it

DorianM In reply to Horacus [2010-05-04 21:35:48 +0000 UTC]

It proved to work.
As you can see, the focal point were Cult Troops arranged according to holy numbers of their respective Gods - four strong troop choices in transports, each with a specific role, yet with sufficient flexibility. Add a couple of monsters, and solid firing platforms, and you have a functional army.

Horacus In reply to DorianM [2010-05-04 22:30:17 +0000 UTC]

Cult Numbers are basic. I like the idea of a undivided army, well, I'm building actually and undivided army.

DorianM In reply to Horacus [2010-05-04 22:49:23 +0000 UTC]

This list could be modified to accommodate a Thousand Sons' unit if you threw out the Obliterators (and it will be once I paint them ) but, to be honest I have a hard time "feeling" them on the battlefield. That would be fully undivided.

Good undivided army. I see berserkers, death guard and, what are they? 1k sons or Emperor's Children?

The paintwork is just FREAKING AMAIZING MAN. Do you have the list of what you used?

DorianM In reply to Horacus [2010-05-04 08:04:47 +0000 UTC]

Thank yee! The jolly crowd behind the Princess are Noise Marines. If you look carefully, you will see the Blastmaster sticking out next to her wing. I just realized I completely forgot to take a separate shot of those buggers! I will do it in a couple of days, hopefully.

Oh, and I posted the list in my comment below the picture.

Damned gorgeous army. So how did your Obliterators perform?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DorianM In reply to kadaeux [2010-05-03 22:07:31 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, good Sir!
The Obliterators are getting progressively better.
While the very start of their career was riddled with overheating plasma weaponry, and constantly failing armour, this weekend they managed to wreck a substantial number of various transports, while the troops mostly managed to take care of the contents. Oh, and two of them killed Le Soldat Marbo, who while trying to slay them nonchalantly threw his demo charge scattering it 11 inches behind his back and obliterating a key scoring unit.

Sorry, you misunderstood, he managed to kill MY scoring unit (Noise Marines) albeit by accident

That was one of my two draws on the tourney, and a very fun and challenging game!

I can see why it won out as Best Painted. And sort of how you placed 2nd. People saying Chaos got nerfed in 4th ed. codex dunno what they talk about imo.
If there was nerfing, it was well-deserved.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DorianM In reply to Belazikkal [2010-05-03 17:09:19 +0000 UTC]

Yup, the nerfing was only slight, and they are still very strong.
They do lack the ability to use some of the fancy new stuff so popular in the 5th, like modifying reserves, outflanking with anything useful, etc. but it is not as if though they cannot win a game.

Also, I have to admit that at times it seemed that the Gods of Chaos were guiding my dice
