Only played MGS4... so I don't really know the whole storyline... but he's the father of Snake right... (well... DNA father... Snake was a clone right?)

Liquid in the PS1 game tells Snake that they are twins. Made by a government project where they took Big Bosses' genes and used the to design the perfect solider. One was genetically modified to be better than the other, which was in fact Liquid himself. Snake was the inferior twin. But this is not known until he dies from the Fox-Die virus. Liquid falsely thought Snake was better than him and that's why he hates him. In the newest one for the PS3 they reveal that the reason why Snake has an old man's body even though he's 42 is because he was designed with a short life span. This is because if his genetic code were to fall into the enemies hands. Yet it doesn't, but that doesn't change the fact he super ages. XD;
