Description I finished the game today! despite all the negative reviews I enjoyed the game a lot. It has its flaws but I didn't mind them much, and also I never played the past Thief games so I couldn't compare.  (I didn't understand the ending though) I hope they'll make Thi5f, I'm sure they'll make everything a lot better next time and I love Garreeett

Regarding commissions, I'm still making progress with the requests I got from the last opening. If you're still waiting for yours, I'm very sorry for the delay! I'm hoping I can start taking new requests before summer.

Awesome rendering of Garrett.   I like what you've done to answer the question of where he puts the loot.

As for the first games, I recommend at least watching the cutscenes from them, that way a lot of possible questions will be answered, including how he got his green eye.

Without spoilers, what's the gameplay like?

SchattenLotus In reply to Gidayu [2014-03-06 15:33:31 +0000 UTC]

It's about stealing Stuff while avoiding getting seen and/or getting killed

Garrett is a Lone Wolf in a dark Environment, where People have given up on
each other for a big Part. And while Garrett continues his Thief-Life, it gets more
and more obvious that the City has become like a huge Prison for it's Population,
making it more and more difficult to avoid the City Guards.

Hide and slip around the Guards, steal all You can - and that's it. Garrett is a true
Thief, as the Game's Name tells You. And while he steals himself a huge Collection
of rare Things like a Trophy Collection, he notices that sooner or later, - that what
ever makes the City sick and ill, will affect him, too - in the long Run.

Further i haven't played yet

I love this game too! I've played the past ones and I still like this one. It's kind of clunky, but there's something to be said about not just doing everything with brute force. I like the challenge of being sneaky!
Also I don't get why there were negative reviews about the game being too supernatural. I think I missed the last game, but the one I played (deadly shadows) was very supernatural. ;T

Anyhow! Lovely depiction of him, this is kind of what I imagine since he seems to have never ending pocket space for shiny things.

played throught he prologue, and still trying to adjust to new thief, new city, and how the odd re-use of names and things don't quite fit with the old characters they used to belong to.

Looks like it will be fun, but more likely to prompt me into fanart of the old games than the new, as these reboots tend to by way of protest (or just to counter the flood of new fans who don't know about the original series) more than anything.

I also miss the feel of the old city - one of the things I noticed most about new thief is radiators in almost every room - I much preferred the old more medieval feel to the previous games to the somewhat more bioshock vibes I'm getting from this one so far.

If you never played the past games, its crystallclear that you got no idea why this game is blashphemie.

I play it myself currently because someone else bought it that I know.
My result: Its a good game. Its just not "a Thief"-series game.
But hey I have just finished the part where you steal from this disgusting General in this factory.

What is clearly missing is...
- The Magic ( alltough I think the "Urkraft"(Urpower?) that Garret wields is a good reminder of how supernatural this universum is )
- I miss the Keepers ( the people who trained Garret when he was a kid, or I miss hints of them in the game )
- I miss the Hammerites, Mechanists, or the influences of Chaos- and Naturedeitys

Thief is NOT just a normal universe with a highly skilled Thief. Its not!

And last and least, the artwork: Brilliant. Garret " Oh no shit, part of my treasure is leaking!! "

I've been a huge fan of Thief for the past 15 years, It's one of my favourite series' and I always thought it was highly underrated. But I loved the new one. It's not blasphemy, so I don't know what you're taking about. Not gonna lie though, I was a bit disappointed that the Hammerites, Pagans and Keepers weren't in it, but it was refreshing to see a new story in the series. Also,  you might have noticed a lot of subtle references to the Keepers, Hammerites and Pagans. I thought that was really cool...

It's a fresh/modern take on the series (which is the point of a reboot), the new voice actor did a FANTASTIC job taking over from Stephen Russell as Garrett (not an easy task but he did it brilliantly), and all of the classic gameplay mechanics/sound design/atmosphere that make it feel like a "Thief" game are there. Frankly, I was thrilled that I got to play a new Thief game after all this time, and I wasn't disappointed.

DunkleMaterie In reply to Monolithic-Sloth [2014-03-07 13:43:38 +0000 UTC]

And thats just what people dont understand.
"New" is not necessarily 'good' and being starved for a sequel doesnt matter anything goes.

The Hammerites, Pagans and Keepers played a BIG PART always.
Or at least they have to be mentioned!! WHAT IS THIS?! Have the developers been too lazy to do even that?
Yesterday I found a paper that mentioned Cragsleft at least. I had mixed feelings about it.

I was relieved that the guys who made Thief4 at least knew about the deeper Lore of the former games but, why are they only mentioning the names and existence of places from the former games?
Its too unrealistic that everyone has just forgotten about THE NUMBER ONE craftsman-religion that influenced the City like decades!!

Ironically one of Garrets qoutes was, translated from German cause I dont know the english one
" The biggest price is to keep being free in this City of chains. "
^ And there are vital elements of this totally missing in the games engine!
As useless as it seems... that would mean I should have the freedom to
* shot a rope-arrow at EVERY piece of wood in the whole town and be able to climb up wherever I like.
* jump whenever I want, doesnt matter if I jump brainlessly into the air without moving much

This console-crap limitations are not even important. Even console-games can have this!
Its a restricted gameplay-experience and even the Lore of this sequel was maimed.
Its an insult for me. I hate it that its always this people making a sequel from something they dont truly treasure.
And everyone is paying them for it like they did a good job.

Its similar to making a new sequel from
- LotR without any remark of Mordor... or Wizards... or the Ring
- StarWars without Jedi's, Sith's or the Force...
- CurseoftheCaribic without JackSparrow, or the Black Pearl, or supernatural aspects in general

The list is endless. Videogamers should really be more as starving selfselling b****es of the developers who obviously think just half the job is good enough cause... people are starving for a sequel of something and -> yeah they will just buy it anyway.
AND THEY DO!!! Argh this is so dumb. And even I play the game. I didnt bought it myself but... *sigh*.

Yeah I play it to see the story for myself and everything but I already know its barely worthy to be called a Thief.
To this point in time its 60% Thief/Dark Project at best and the other 40% are just commerce-crap.
And everyone liking this or not having a problem with it is the enemy of everything that is original and noble.

I really wish them " Hals und Beinbruch ".

Which is strange because the 3rd person is a 100% optional. And Thief needs to try new things IMO. Otherwise you get Thief 2 which took everything that worked in Thief: DP but didn't bother to expand on stuff that didn't work as much. Personally I thought it was too safe...and clean. City was too clean in that one.

People don't like to learn new things....from my experience anyway.
