Why is it that I suddenly got an image of Altair saying
"Look! This one's his diary! It says... *Ahem* Dear Diary, today I plotted against that novice Altair again. I can't believe he still dosen't notice that I'm evil! Oh, and today I saw the cutest little stallion in the market. It was a small white and gold one, too! Maybe I'll save up my money for that little pony. Oh, and I took a shower. Huzzah! Sincerely, Me"
And then the two of them break out laughing until their sides hurt.

I can see Malik thinking "if I leave it all to him, disaster shall strike" and thus pretty much not giving Altair a choice over his help - but at the sae time I think at that point Atair, no longer so arrogant, knows he needs Malik's help, thus doesn't put up much fuss (other then obligatory snarking that the two must have XD).
This is a very sober moment you've drawn. I love how you've managed to capture a sense of both resonsibility and pressure.

after al-mualim is killed altair turns into a bit of a bookworm, in ac2 he journaled so much he even made an entry about how much time he spent on it! aparently malik had a few words to him and so did maria, but i can still imagine long nights in the library, malik bringing a cold drink for the lethargic altair as the candle light dimmed with the passing hours. malik left to slumber in a nearby chair as altair's mind danced among the ehterial possibilities.
