Depends on what you mean by brony, some people seem to use it as a term for all fans, but urban dictionary specifies it as adult male fans (which is the definition I'm familiar with).
Also even as an adult male fan, you could always just not partake in the behaviors that get bronys hate and whatnot. As with all fandoms, there's toxic fans and there's chill fans. From what I've seen brony is typically used to describe the toxic fans more than the chill ones.
Note: this is coming from someone outside the fandom using a basic google search and generalized knowledge of fandoms. A proper fan may have a more accurate answer
