And to think, he wouldn't have gotten swallowed by a whale if he hadn't chose to run.
An excellent piece, especially how the blues work together so well and how you have the figure posed.

I wanted the figure to have the sense of thrashing movement you'd get from a drowning man. Pthalo blue is just a very powerful color, so apart from white and paynes gray it was the only one I had to use.

This was certainly Jonah's mega-lowpoint!
Still, that's the Mercy of God for you! Not the wrathful God some people preach about!
Excellent painting there!

As usual your sense of perspective, color, and storytelling are excellent. Amazing stuff my friend.

I actually did three different sketches of this piece with Jonah and the whale done at different size relationships. I was all set to go with a much smaller Jonah and much larger whale until Carolyn said she liked the one with Jonah closer to the camera and the whale farther back. The storyteller in me (reluctantly) decided she was right.
Anyway, while I appreciate every compliment Iβm given, itβs especially encouraging to get them from a pro. Thanks very much.

Doug,
Well, Karin is MY best critic. So if she says "wow!" I usually go with the piece. If she is reluctant I know I'm in trouble.
Did Carolyn grow up in a house full of artists too?

Mm, no... though her dad likes to dabble with painting sometimes. I don't really know how she got to be so critical. It's weird.

yes, an excellent use of blue and the use of light likewise.

I'm afraid the poor quality digital photo of the piece distorts the gradation of color here quite a bit. Glad to hear that some of it survived.

This is amazing! I recently did a piece on Jonah, but it looks nothing like this. I love the perspective and the realism.

Oh, I saw your piece and thought it was very good. It's in a different style but captures the same feeling I was going for with this.

Thanks! Yup, I think we were going for the same feeling.
