Description
This is the 2nd box that I made for my Decorative Box software project. First my program created an 108 sided orthogonal polyhedron that approximates the shape of a sphere. Then it added finger joints to the sides so that they fit together and created instructions for a CNC laser machine to cut out the pieces along with labels to aid with assembly. I then painted the pieces and assembled them into the above sphere box.

This model is 8x8x8 units. The box has a unit size of 1 1/8th inches and the physical dimensions are 9"x9"x9."
There are 108 pieces - 6 large "plus signs", 6 larger "rings", 24 2x1 unit and 72 1x1 unit pieces. Accounting for the fingers there are 10 distinct piece shapes.
