had a dream in a labyrinth and at the end I started a boss battle with Sans, except he looked different (hoodie up, like Dust but with different colored eyes) and summoned cannons instead of blasters/bones.

Doodled him, and then decided to give him a proper design! And a proper AU

Basically the Underground except its an ever changing labyrinth. Sans lost Paps sometime in it, and is now looking for him. The Underground is on edge and even sometimes hostile due to the similarly hostile environment. The labyrinth is a trap created by the humans who sealed them, but it wasn't triggered until the CORE was built.

Now, the CORE makes tools to help monsters navigate the labyrinth, along with an underground market for reverse engineered weapons from the dumps. Sans was a scientist for the CORE like in canon, and though he quit, he hasn't left his tinkering days behind. Sans is investigating the timeline fluctuations during his search for his brother.

Sans' attacks are all or nothing, which is why he often resorts to a pistol. CORE weapons are robust and in their early stages so they just look like human weapons- but most are powered by soul energy. Some weapons are supplied with bullets, but bullets themselves are few and far between. Sans' pistol is energy powered, his shotgun uses bullets.
