Description Jesus Christ!!!! Remember when I said I'd try coloring this with a diferent technique? What was I thinking!!!! What a pain in the ass!!! I'm sticking to good 'ol fashioned cell shading. Not that I don't like the result, but it was one of those things where the more I did, the more I saw was still to be done!!

Oh well, at least I like it. But I'm leaving it to the color freaks!!!

Nope. There she's only half transformed. There's a full form yet to be seen. As for the beach, she can go no problem, suntan's don't afect her. Now if she wen't moonbathing, that's another story.

And she's mine and "MRREVENANT"

Shit!! I don't know how to post links!!!

She looks kick ass, muscular, very muscular, you must have studied some anatomy or something. I wish I took drawing classes, but alas I have to teach myself by watching other people's work

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

dovianax In reply to Manetochen [2006-02-13 19:05:43 +0000 UTC]

Thanx, anatomy can be tricky, but honnestly, there's no substitution to standing in front of the mirror and making an ass of yourself. Not that I have that physique, but posing helps find the way the biceps, triceps, and quads contort to the movement. And if I tense up long enough I can get an idea on the abs. Then again, beeing a skinny bastard helps, hehehe...

As for training, do what I did back in the day, I've taken art classes all my life and not one teacher actually helped me hone my skills in comic book art. Apparently the art comunity has a bug up their ass about comic art, according to them it's not even a legit branch of art, and a waste of time to do. Personally I think it's bullshit, but hey, to each their own. So what I did was to study the art of your favorite artist and really get into his head, study each stroke, line, composition, technique, I mean REALLY find out how he did it. Then don't be afraid to imitate it. Allot of people will call you a cheater or a clone, but don't worry, everyone in their development becomes a clone of their idol. Hell, even I was the biggest Jim Lee clone myself. The point is to develop your own personal technique while you study your idol, until you don't need the reference anymore.

Also, don't be afraid to use reference. You'd be suprised how many artist's don't know what the bottom part of a car look's like, or what a building crumbleing looks like. So make a scrap book of reference materials handy, wether it be cut ups, or saved pics from the web. As for anatomy... Muscle mags for muscle defenition, lingerie or playboy for femenine characters. I'd stay away from Hustler or penthouse or other hard core mags, simply because the poses are usually cheese spreads.

Well, that's pretty much my take on things, hope it was of some help.

You got it on one there. I'm still crap in the wake of my idol, but there are actually a few things I believe I might do better than him too, overall though, I can certainly see the similarities between our artwork. I think I just have a lot more anime influence in my own style...

As for the artwork here... the only thing I can say is, the amount of time you put into the piece with directly reflect the given results... Point being, if you put 20 hours into a picture instead of the usual 10... you're probably going to get your best work to date.

dovianax In reply to Lupinator [2006-12-09 23:57:44 +0000 UTC]

Cant argue with you there. And in a perfect world I would put 20 hours into a drawing. But unfortunately in this business it's all about having everything for yesterday, so putting the required time into a job to make it the best possible way is sometimes not an option. So you sometimes need to create quality work under a time line.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lupinator In reply to dovianax [2006-12-14 18:30:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, you got that right man, in a perfect world you could do that... Fortunately for me, I'm not under any major time constraints with my art... and I can generally just take my sweet ass time. I enjoy making things the best they can possibly be though... and I actually get kinda upset when I throw down something that I can't be entirely happy with... I dunno, I'm really starting to take my art very seriously... Currently, I have a drawing that is about 45+ hours in the making...

It's kinda retarded though, that I'd focus so much time and effort into Anthro artwork... seeing as you're actually better off not drawing it at all... Oh well...

Sorry for the late reply man... Army stuff + internet BS > than dA time...

Take it easy man.

dovianax In reply to Lupinator [2006-12-14 19:34:09 +0000 UTC]

LOL!!! no prob! And hey, lucky you that can actually take the time to do so. There is something to be said about perfectionism. As for anthro, trust me, it's not a waste of time. I'm personally not that into it, but every time I go to a show or a convention, I get swamped by antros and furries who want me to sketch stuff for them. Apparently thanks to Mercy, I have quite a following, hehehehe, go figure. Well, my point is that there IS a market for what you do and there are people willing to pay for your art. So in essence you'll do just fine. Hell, it worked for Neopets!!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

dovianax In reply to dovianax [2006-12-15 19:11:19 +0000 UTC]

LOL!!!!! Ain't that the truth!!!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Lupinator In reply to dovianax [2006-12-15 11:33:32 +0000 UTC]

Well, my perfectionism is probably going to keep me from graduating in any art classes to... I remember in elementary school, I'd still be working on art assignments that were given a week ago... The only reason I passed was because of the sheer amount of effort I'd put into my work... I guess they figured that was merit enough...

And yeah, furries are rather ridiculous... and it doesn't help much that I'm such a terrible business person. Personally, I hate the furries on the whole... and most of the good anthro artists actually try and detach themselves from the furry fandom. I started drawing anthro before I discovered the furries... and frankly... most furries are just pathetic excuses for human beings, that can't even draw themselves, and... you know what... I'm not going to get into it... It's just not a fandom that I want to cater to...

All I really know is that I'm probably not going to be drawing anthro forever... and I'll never be respected for my anthro artwork... It's not surprising that you get swamped by furries though, they leech themselves onto anything that can be even considered vaguely furry related, and lol... I knew Neopets had to be mainly furries... it's the only explanation... HAHA!

Ofcourse its helpfull...and I hear you there about the comic art in Puerto Rico, My uncle back in the day made some few comics but did not do so well. My uncle has always been a comic admirer he once had thousands of comics for collections until his mother made him burn every single one, he still has some like the superman doomsday episode, so I basically grew up looking at comics since my uncle gave them to me, I have always tried to make a mixture of american comics with japanese, even if my friends say that japanese art like anime is crap, But Ill fuse them one day.!! so thanks for the words of advise.

I know what you mean about colors, I can whip up a drawing no problem but when I have to color I need a dead line of a year or more. What a pain in the neck, but you definately did justice to this piece and at least you can say it was all you bro. One more for you brotha'!!
