I love this image, all the beautiful Ruffles, Rouching, folds and bunching of the fabrics... It looks beautiful.
The Fluffy cushion looks so cuddly, I even tried to emulate your way of colouring fluff/ fur in my most recent image, as I loved how it looked in the Fine-Nibbles image. I think maybe I will have to experiment and create a different fluff brush for myself.

I did notice that your lazy maid picture had a similar lying-in-pillows motif! My technique for shading fur is basically to make it look lumpy with an airbrush and then use a smudge tool to turn the lumps into fur.

I can honestly say it was genuinely purely coincidence,
Β Although as I mentioned I did try to emulate your fur creation method and Your 'Single Buttoned Cushion' reminded me of one of my favourite cushions My Nan used to have, so I created one like Hers only in the pinky shade instead of the olive green colour She had.
That technique sounds interesting, I think I will definitely have to try it. I've just been using a 'fur brush' I created, which looks ok, but is a little bit to thin in terms of strokes/ the actual lines of the brush itself.

Oh, I just meant that we both drew on the same well-establish pin-up trope.Β I liked the trope so much that, recently, I sewed a big heart-shaped pillow for myself.
I have used a brush like the one you described for grass.

Oooooh, the Pin-Up Troupes.
The heart shaped cushion actually sounds like a fun project. Β Was it Fluffy?
I didn't realise how handy creating my own brushes was, until I began creating them, the Chain Brushes alone are huge, huge time savers (granted I still add colours & highlights to each link, but its a lot quicker to do)... Multiple Hair Strands / Flowers/ Hearts/ Speedlines/ Frilly Trims/ Ruffled Patterns/ even Hollowed out Circles to save me time rather than using the 'Circle Tool'.

Hehe, Pin-Up Troupes! You should use that in a comic!
Yes, my heart-shaped pillow is fluffy. Too fluffy, really. I got carried away. It's a about two and a half feet wide and a foot thick and overstuffed. It's more of a stuffed toy than a pillow. I used furry red minky fabric.
Yes, special brushes are such a wonderful time-saver! I've been using them for chains, beads, fur, stitching, and more.

Pin-Up Troupes, You're right, that in itself is a whole comic concept.
Your pillow sounds amazing, I don't think I have ever been more tempted to go to a local crafts store so I can find the perfect materials for a Pink & Fluffi Home-made Pillow.
The one thing I would really love to be able to do with the chain brushes is to be able to actually design a 'chain brush' which looks like it's actually rotating, But I don't know if its even possible to do?!? :-s

DovSherman In reply to kaokatt [2016-10-10 14:56:36 +0000 UTC]
It depends on what kind of rotation you mean. My chain brush has rotation in the sense that each link turns a little bit along the axis of the chain's direction. I just drew a longer length of chain for my brush resource so that I could include more variety in the links.
But if you mean turn in three dimensions as the chain points toward or away from the viewer, it's not possible with a brush. You would need a true 3D object to get that effect.

I was referring to the Rotation of each chain links, I think I will have to go back and look at some of your images and their chains
I had thought about 'lengthening' a chain brush, but I thought it would probably only work with 'Straight' lengths of chain. :-s
Thank you for the 'Fluffing Fur Technique' Dov, I tried it on the Bedtime Bride image and I really liked how the final effect looked. Although I may have to experiment with the Fluff High-Lighting a bit more.

A non-rotating chain is easier to make but there's no reason a longer, rotating chain can't work. You just have to keep the rotation going in the same direction and make sure that the ends match up. A good example of it in my work is inΒ Be Mine Β where you can see several long, straight lengths of chain so the rotation is easy to spot.
The fur on Bedtime Bride looks great!

I love the chains on your 'Be Mine' image, especially the high-lighting & shadows on the chain links. and the Chain Rotation is Flawless.

Thank you! I really like the chain detail brushes you've been using as well. You have me thinking more about other types of brushes I can use in my own work.
