My friends and mine Akatsuki cosplay at AnimeNorth 2007!!My cosplay was Deidara. All of the cloaks worn by my friends were made by me - thats right, 6 Akatsuki cloaks!!
NEVER AGAIN >_< too much sewing!!
I made some of the accessories for the other costumes as well (Kakuzu's head scarf and face mask, and Kisame's hat and "Samehada" sword), but everything else was made by the boys, with help from the group.
The whole project was lots of fun to do, albeit a bit stressful at the end
Our Hidan also had a side gig as Pein at FanExpo 2007

Oh man, I've been trying to find you guys! Your cosplay was amazing, I didn't see it personally but my friend had a picture of it. Awesome job, it's nice to see a non-half baked Akatsuki cosplay these days!
psst.. that Hidan is HOT. *love love love* (I dubbed him the hottest cosplay at Anime North, the rest of my friends ranked him just behind one of the Shippuuden Sasuke's).
Would love to see pictures from FanExpo if you have them! I was there too but didn't see you guys around ;_;

(I know what you mean about the Akatsuki cosplays - so many are just bought, kinda kills the spirit - thats why we had so much fun with these!)

(and yeah, too many people throw on an Akatsuki cloak and either wear a ponytail and claim to be Itachi or dye their hair red and claim to be Sasori, it's sad)

*cough* yeah, I feel bad for our Itachi - he wanted to do more but he couldn't get the contacts and he wasn't willing to dye his hair (even temporarily) so you can't really pull it off with just the headband and black stress lines V_V He ended up not dressing up on the Sunday of AN, probably because he didn't look very accurate.
Thats our Sasuke!! Yup, Hidan and him met and are now great friends - that Sasuke dressed up again for FanExpo and we all hung out, he's a really cool guy.
(Sasuke met his girlfriend - a Sakura cosplayer - at Animenorth this year! They met Saturday, and by Sunday they were calling each other boyfriend & girlfriend, hehe, so cute!! *squishes*)
I'll get you the link for their photos (have to find it) - Hidan painted himself black and white on Sunday when they did it, so they're pretty crazy! (or rather I painted him, lol - we missed out gameshow because of it!! We were supposed to be playing Anime Family Feud but it took to long to paint Hidan and they replaced us!! *sniff*)

Wow, that's awesome! Actually I think we may have seen him at FanExpo too! When we were waiting in line for the masquerade, there were like, three SasuSaku's there, and I'm pretty sure one was him (the tattoo was the same, at least). But damn, I really wanted to see all of you there! I was May from Pokemon, and I walked around half of the day with Deidara's headband around my neck and a Deidara plushie by my side >: D
(aww, cute! I've noticed that most of the Shippuuden Sasuke's either come with a Sakura or end up finding a Sakura at these conventions XD)
And yay, that would be awesome! Sucks about Family Feud though- an Akatsuki family would have been awesome as hell. My friends and I actually only shopped at Anime North though (our first con, we were all too "OMG ANIME STUFF EVERYWHERE" to acknowledge other events). Can't wait to see them!

haha, my first con was like that, and we ended up missing a lot of events as well, because we were such a big group, it was hard to coordinate everyone. We've already laid it down that next year, you leave when you're ready, screw the rest, because some people (largely myself, lol) missed out on panels events that i really wanted to go to because everybody else wasn't ready.
That SasuSaku you saw was probably him, since his tattoo is a permanent one, that would be one BIG coincidence if there was another Sasuke with the same Kanji tattoo!
I wish I had seen you! I've never seen a May cosplay, but I'm IN LOVE with pokemon. I'm actually making a Mime Jr. "inspired" costume

Yep! I've definitely seen Hidan and Kakuzu and Kisame, and I think I've seen Sasori too. (And by "seen", I mean I think I saw them in con photos on the Chuunin community at LJ.) You lot have really great costumes.
YES! Haha, don't worry, you aren't the only one!! *feels like a support group for Akatsuki costume crafters* It does seem to happen a lot with Akatsuki groups - the same person does all the coats. I wonder why that is. xD

Because theres always gonna be one person who can sew, and if that one person just can't say no - well, there you have it.
I know when I made these, I was super-mad rushing the last few days before the con back in May - Especially the last day, I was Dei-dei chan in bitch mode trying to get them done, lol.
Luckily Kisame and Hidan were really helpful throughout the whole thing (so were the others - for the most part - but Kisame is my long-time boyfriend and Hidan is his twin brother/my brother now too) so without them helping/putting up with my vengeful hormones in actions while avoiding my needle, I would've been lost! haha.
I can only hope your group was as supportive as mine (*cough* and you had a bit more control, lmao)

I was rushing like crazy, too. I had a week to get it all done and I was graduating from high school that Friday before heading off to the con (I was so mad, I didn't care about effin' graduation, I just wanted to go to the convention! I hated HS.)...so I don't suggest doing that. Ever.
They sorta were, sorta weren't. My mom helped though and that was awesome.

hahahaha, I was graduating high school at the same time too! Well, just a bit before, since the convention was in May.
Funny thing is it wasn't even my idea, it was Hidan and Kisame's - which is why they helped so much, so that at least worked out well, haha.
I just have to say that now that all the sewing and madness is over, its really nice to have those six cloaks floating around. We can reuse them constantly because they're so sturdy for the same cosplay or a different character, or even rotate them from friend to friend if they want to try dressing up.
In the end, cosplay is fun, especially when you're an evil organization
