Description My next victim for 3D art project this time is Kiki (original creator: Tyson Tan). Modelling from scratch surely a hard work. I tested it with Cycle render and freestyle render. I compare draw UV mapping from dedicated 2D software(Krita) and texture mode from Blender. Seems the 2D make the job easier, but shifting between 2 apps are very tiring. I find that Blender brush is very unresponsive and suitable just for final draw and details, plus no eraser. As for hair particle, its like Barbie Doll, just cut, add and comb the hair. I want the hair to be straight but hardware limitation stopped me here. Got CUDA but its unavailable in Ubuntu

i just started trying to model characters and i certainly have to agree with you that it's hard work... or just hard.  keep it up though, you've at least made something you can show people. which is farther than i've made it.

cuda should be available in ubuntu you just have to make sure you've got the proprietary nvidia drivers installed and nvidia-modprobe. (i don't think you actually need the cuda toolkit installed (i think that's more for when you're interested in making cuda enabled software) but i could be mistaken about that.  definitely need nvidia-modprobe and the proprietary drivers though.

Don't worry. Learning 3D is a long way. Take me 3 years to study all that stuff. Learning Blender will be faster if I not shifting to many other softwares. After I see high quality Blender art made by young artist in I tried to push further. I think the best way to learn 3D faster generally is to make everything yourself without relying on any pre-made sources. Tutorials help as long as you follow along(watch and do at the same time). Thank you about CUDA advice, I have done that method but its not finish there yet. There are settings in render properties that needs configure. At render panel, the feature set must be set to experimental, but it make render slower. Most Ubuntu users agree that CUDA is not ready yet. I really hope for CUDA enabled render, as the Pixar Render-Man has become more available in Blender.

Not bad at all! The hair is "meh" in my opinion but I bet it could easily be sorted with a bit more fine tuning. Keep up the work. u3u
