Description The-White-December  (Phase 2)
---

Asher would hate to admit it, after all the time and effort he had put into his horse, but he did fear the second phase the most. Fevernova was a headstrong animal, he liked to do things his way or force his rider to compromise to get the most out of him. Boredom came easily to a bright horse like Nova. He was born to run, cause chaos and drag Asher with him. His tendency to ignore the use of a bit and bolt regardless was an issue, of course. It was something that Ash had to work through to save his horse’s mouth and his own sanity. A lengthy process of teaching them both to neckrope had done wonders. It required trust, naturally. Nova could still turn on a dime and dump his rider if he wanted to. Perhaps even more easily now; but after all they had been through, usually, he would refrain.

Travelling across Austria while neckroping was therefore one of the biggest trust exercises the pair had faced. There was always the chance that it would be a Disney movie come true, and go poetically smoothly, or it could turn fatal fast. Asher’s priority was his horse, and taking the least stressful, least distracting route for him seemed the best course of action. He had heard talk of wild ponies in the area; some of which Fevernova may have been distantly related to. The pair had even met some of them, and a familiar face out on the trail earlier. The stallion had kept his cool that time, and so the Australian had some refreshed faith in his horse.

After maintaining a sensibly steady pace out on the trail, Fevernova would reach his limit of ‘taking it slow’ and decide to take off like a rocket through snow. Asher would have been happy with simply surviving this snowy ordeal. But Fevernova? Apparently, he was in it to win.

Against the bitter snow, the pair raced; clinging to the edge of the forest to head to the clear. They were not the only souls to scurry through the snow, though. Fresh hoofprints on the ground suggested that they were not alone, and indeed, two startled horses emerged from their cosy shelter of evergreen trees. A stallion and a mare, frolicking and squealing as if their plans together had been rudely interrupted. It was an amusing scene, but Ash and Fevernova wouldn't linger too long to cramp the stud’s style any more than they already had done.

“Good luck, mate!”

Ash would call out and giggle under his breath, pleased that he wasn’t the only one enjoying the cool, calm evening. With a sigh, he couldn't help but reminisce to a time in a tent a phase prior. Just like those wild horses; he wouldn't have minded a little company that night, either.
