how to• create a Restore Point using System Restore (safety first!)
• patch Windows so you can use 3rd party themes using this tool: uxstyle.com
• install the theme by copying the content of Theme for Windows 8 or Theme for Windows 8.1 folder in "C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\"
• apply the theme from the Personalize panel
• apply the registry settings by running the minimal_taste_8_window_metrics.reg file in the Window Metrics folder
• remove the hover glow of the taskbar buttons: System>Advanced Settings>Performance Settings>uncheck Animations in the taskbar
• restart Windows and...
• enjoy using the theme!

It's a very complex process. You have to use a software called windows style builder. After you buy it you can register on their forum where you can find all the info you need about making windows themes.

Ah, you mean vista style builder. I purchased that a while back, and it's so out of date and they no longer support it. I guess it still works editing themes, but my edits won't load within windows even though I just changed the images colors / design (within that themes original px count) in specific regions of a theme to make it more personal for myself. I just don't have the time like I did then to modify themes, it's tedious work.
I read somewhere that someone was working on a better, not as clunky, and updated version.

It's not vista style builder anymore. It's windows style builder and it's up to date. How do you think we can make themes even for win10 tp? If you still have the licence all you need to do is register in the official forum where you will find the latest build and download it from there.

That would be the normal route, but the forum doesn't seem to be working. I've tried to access it for several months and either get a blank white page or an internal error 500. Andreas hasn't updated the content on the site either, so I have no other idea where the update is located other than to contact him again.

You can only see the download thread after you register. And you can only register if you bought the software cause you need the VSB Activation Serialcode.

my friend... the windows themes can't change your icons!

Make sure you use the right theme for the right windows version. Minimal Taste 8.1 is for win 8.1. I think you installed the other one (version 8).

I dont have that bug cause I fixed it some time ago. Please tell me if both versions of the theme have this bug and also at what dpi is your windows set?
And if you recently downloaded the theme or you have an older version? I will get at the bottom of this and make it work... Don't worry!

You don't install it. You just have to create a shortcut for each apps you want to pin on the taskbar, change their icons and then drag&drop them on the taskbar.

if you installed uxstyle correctly and copied all the content of each theme folders in C:/windows/resource/themes than it has to work.
please try some other custom win8 theme to see if those work.
if you can't make it work I'll gladly assist you via TeamViewer and in the end we will make it work.
