how to• create a Restore Point using System Restore (safety first!)
• patch Windows so you can use 3rd party themes using this tool: uxstyle.com
• install the theme by copying the content of Theme for Windows 8 or Theme for Windows 8.1 folder in "C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\"
• apply the theme from the Personalize panel
• apply the registry settings by running the minimal_taste_8_window_metrics.reg file in the Window Metrics folder
• remove the hover glow of the taskbar buttons: System>Advanced Settings>Performance Settings>uncheck Animations in the taskbar
• restart Windows and...
• enjoy using the theme!

It works on 8.1 quite well, however it has a small problem with title text on windows being in dark squares.

thanks for the screen shot! I see that it's a bit more complicated in windows 8.1... I really hate microshit! why the hell did they had to fuck up the title bar again!?
like I said before, I don't have windows 8 and now way to test this. and right now I'm sticking to win8... no reason for me to upgrade to 8.1. not sure why anyone would frankly... just for the freaking start button and some useless tweaks for the metro interface?

If you mean the title bar, then yes... The active title bar has a background of #c6c6c6 and the inactive #b3b3b3.
As for the other problem... not sure since I don't use steam. Steam has a weird interface... from what I see it uses some standard Windows elements and colors and combines them with their own skin... not a great idea when people are using custom skins... they did not take that into account.

maybe I missed the second problem.. was it not that you had grey text on a black background? and the background was generated by the steam skin?

Windows 8.1 64bit working OK except jumplists.
Also, possible to do version with narrow Taskbar ? A bit wide for me in this version.
But still... a very nice theme !

It's when you right click on an item in the taskbar right? That's bugged yes. Some text in the file explorer also doesn't work. Anyone got a fix?

Every time i try to take a picture of the 'jumplist' (if it's called like that) it won't work so can't provide it myself right now

the jumplist bug is because the theme is based on a windows 8 aero theme , not a 8.1 aero theme

It worked on Windows 8.1 for me too!
Kinda scary to hear people needed to restore.
Only thing i see is the text in windows sometimes has a grey background like in word or something. That's it

If you could hand it off to someone who can get it working on 8.1, that'd be great.
I can't login when I install this theme - thankfully I did a system restore just before due to your warning. For me, I just got a blank screen after signing in.

I see that TengZhao (the guy bellow) says that for him it works on Windows 8.1.
Like I said before... many times it's not the theme but the way windows has been patched.
