how to• create a Restore Point using System Restore (safety first!)
• patch Windows so you can use 3rd party themes using this tool: uxstyle.com
• install the theme by copying the content of Theme for Windows 8 or Theme for Windows 8.1 folder in "C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\"
• apply the theme from the Personalize panel
• apply the registry settings by running the minimal_taste_8_window_metrics.reg file in the Window Metrics folder
• remove the hover glow of the taskbar buttons: System>Advanced Settings>Performance Settings>uncheck Animations in the taskbar
• restart Windows and...
• enjoy using the theme!

I like the theme, but it crashed my system when applying (Windows 8.1 Professional 64-bit). The problem may be unique to my setup, but I wanted to post a warning just in case.

I use Windows 8 64 bit and it seems to work without a problem.
How did it crash your system? Did you get a BSOD or something? Most of the time it's not the theme to blame but uxstyle patch.

I had the same problem as Zaxy below (flashing black screen at login). The only solution to this problem is doing a system restore, so I have got into the habit of creating a restore point before applying new themes. I don't use the UltraUx patch, I use the "uxstyle" system extension so I don't have to patch my system files, but I did test your theme on another system that I did patch and got the same result. As I said before, the problem most likely has something to do with my own system, but as you can see, others can experience the same thing.

weird! I'm guessing you're using win 8.1 as well right? but unfortunately I cannot test it since I don't use win 8.1.
microsoft has a bad habit of screwing things that work.
I'll ask neiio for help cause he helped me port the theme to win 8.

I wouldn't worry about it, it could be down to something as silly as people having a different language setting. They make skinning really complicated which is why I gave up a long time ago.

Don't worry about it too much. It seems as if most people have had no problems using the theme in Win 8.1, so those of us who are having issues are in the minority. As great as it would be for you to track down and fix every possible bug or compatibility issue, its just not possible. Please don't spend too much time trying to figure out the problem unless you find out that many others are having the same issue. I'd rather have you spend time creating and/or porting new themes to share, since I've enjoyed using your designs since Windows 7.
