Remember the good ol' days? Of course you do!For me the good ol' days smell a lot like a new AMD K6-2 white-ish case, 15" tube monitor, 3 buttons white Acer mouse, white Genius keyboard, windows 98, brand new Carmageddon 2 CD, fifa 99, tomb raider 3, loveparade 1998, rave, techno, trance and of course... WINAMP... it really whips the Llama's ass!
The last few weeks I found myself swimming in nostalgia and Winamp jumped on my desktop. I've always wanted to make a Winamp skin but never got the chance and patience to do it. So I took a long breath and decided to go for it! And here's the result: a skin that matches my well known Simplify 8 For Windows Theme .
So I hope you like this skin as much you did my windows theme!
This goes out to all the old school computer fans out there... you know who you are if you're downloading this one!

Hey, thanks for this prompt reponse ! Never got one so quickly ! Yes, I love these "old" classic skins, yours reminded me of Mindich Classic or Exeed ! I don't bother with playlists, but use them to stream internet radio stations (Ambient/Downtempo/Lounge/Chillout mainly) and to decorate my screen, along with a nice visualization...

I had heard of Sonique, but never used it. Very interesting reading on Wikipedia, thanks. The Sonique skins must have been quite wild !
I have had Aimp on a laptop for over a year and was very enthusiastic about the sound, some of their skins were great but many disappointed me. I tried to have both Aimp & Winamp at the same time, but it got messy, so I removed Aimp.

I'm asking you about Sonique because the visualizations from aimp are actually from Sonique which are really cool, especially the Core Aorta and Rabbit hole ones.

I agree, that's what I liked best about the Aimp skins, the small visualizations "stuck" in the main window. But why are they so small ?? And I told you many Aimp skins disappointed me, because many are very much alike & have no vis !
Also, I like the Soundspectrum visualizations (G-Force and Aeon particularly) and they work well with Winamp, but not with Aimp.
Regarding Oblivion, no, I haven't seen it. I have enjoyed Avatar, E.T. and most Spielberg's sci-fi movies. And I love some American series such as Mentalist & Criminal Minds !!
And on another subjet: I'm having problems with DeviantArt, I've installed Adbock Plus and DeviantArt asks me to place the site on my whitelist, but I don't know how to do that !! Sometimes, they block me & make it impossible to download !

Thanks for your help, however I can't fix the problem because I have no way of getting to settings. It doesn't appear in "All the programs", I have no icon in the taskbar or the start menu. The only 2 places where I can find Adblock Plus are as a folder in Program Files or in Programs & Features. If I click on the folder in Program Files, I will be asked if I want to repair or delete the program. I click on repair, fine, it tells me "done". But there's no place where I can reach the settings like I see in videos or tutorials !! This is on my laptop running Win7, with IE11. I haven't installed Adblock Plus on my Win10 laptops, so I can't compare. So, I can use my Win10 computer to spend time on DeviantArt & download, but I want to do that on a laptop where Adblock Plus is installet too !! I understand the whitelisting "philosophy" & can do it easily on my anti-virus or Malwarebytes, but Adblock plus is different.
Sorry, Professor, for this unromantic paragraph !!

Yes, thanks, friend ! You are really nice, and I think you won't mind if I ask you a question about a problem I can't solve. You seem to know everything about computers !!
Here: I like to download from Wincustomize (part of Stardock) desktop gadgets (Very pretty ones, I know, gadgets are not fascionable any longer, but I'm not talking of Windows gadgets, but Executable Files gadgets (Name of Gadget.exe).
Many of those gadgets are "attacked" sometimes immediately destroyed without warning by my anti-virus or by Malwarebytes. Of course, I know .exe files can be dangerous, but they come from a reputable site. No point in whitelisting Wincustomize, because all the anti-virus sees is a gadget, it doesn't know where it comes from !! And when Malwarebytes places one in quarantine, I can't retrieve the gadget, or it is broken and the file doesn't open !!
Any idea?? Of course, you could tell me,"forget about gadgets", but that's not really a solution !!!!!

Not sure how to fix this since I don't use malwarebytes. I'm using Panda free Antivirus paired with the windows firewall and uBlock Origin for Chrome. And I've never caught any viruses or malware. The key is to use a good browser (NOT Internet Explorer!) with adblock and the most important thing: be very careful on what you click and what websites you are browsing.
Now this is what works for me.. Dunno about if it will work for you or others.

I'm currently using McAfee Internet Security Suite 2016, I like it much better than Bitdefender that I had last year, it is the anti-virus part of the Bitdefender Security Suite which swallowed most of my .EXE gadgets !! And now, because of Windows 10, Wincustomize has sort of abandoned the gadgets to concentrate on WindowBlinds. (that's much too complicated for me !)

I see... another great option to the Wincustomize gadgets is Rainmeter: www.rainmeter.net/
You can find a lot of great gadgets and skins here on deviantArt and you won't have any trouble with the antivirus.

It was pretty innovative and had some crazy skins and awesome visualizations. AIMP player is still using some of the old sonique visualisations. So yeah.. You still are an OG!

Dang I can't believe I've never heard about Sonique till now. It must have looked really cool back then too. I like some of the concepts and elements of AIMP that's missing from Winamp but I'd still pick Winamp all the way. Simple, easy to use, lightweight, and looks good. That's why I've always wished and hoped for more Winamp skinners (and not the kind of skins with anime characters on it) and I've tried creating one myself but couldn't figure out how to do it from scratch so I would just edit/modify existing skins.
Btw, how do you modify the bg color for the menu (like when you right click on the skin)? I'm guessing it's that purplish color by default. Do you need a specific app/program for that?

Yeah... it was pretty cool back then... it had animations in the menus and smooth transitions plus killer visualizations. It was something different!
About the winamp skin... all skins (WSZ) are basically zip files so you can open them with winrar or something. Unpack it in a folder. Inside you'll find a file named genex.bmp. There at the top you'll find some colored 1x1px squares. One of them dictates the color of the right click menu, if that's what you want to change. Not sure which one it is though... try them one by one. And you don't even need photoshop.... you can even use Paint to edit that BMP.

Ohhh found it!! I've noticed that not every skin has a genex.bmp file so I'm guessing those are the ones with the purplish right click menu. I've always known about the wsz=zip files but I could never figure out how to change the menu color. Thank you!!

Oh I didn't know that. You should try and do a foobar 2000 skin that pairs with your windows themes. It would also work better than classic winamp.
