Description This is a little comic strip I did for the 75th anniversary of Popeye, which was in 2004. If you went to the San Diego Comic-con 2004 you may remember it was published in the souvenir book. Hopefully this will tide you over a little longer while I finnish my current piece, probably by the end of the week.

Drawn with a Micron pen.

Popeye and related characters are of course copyright King Feature Syndicate and the Hearst Corporation.

Very nicely done! I love your ink-drawing techinique! It must have taken forever to draw such a finely-detailed comic.

I'm Popeye the Sailor Man.
I live in a garbage can.
I never go swimmin'
With bald-headed women
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man.

*toot, toot.*

This is so cute! The inking is very good, too, and I like that border.

That's such a wonderful tribute.
I've long been a Segar fan, having read the Fantagraphics reprints numerous times.
There used to be a magazine called Nemo Illustrated or something like that which
had articles about all the old classic comics and such.
The third issue had an excerpt from an unpublished E.C. Segar Sea Hag novel.
I've been looking for this issue for years with no luck.

BTW the work in the rest of your gallery is utterly amazing.

Lovely! Not the work we are used to see from you, but that's a good thing too. Variation is the spice of life, baby!
Was this also done in ball-point pen or in indian ink or digitally?
I'm not a big PopEye fan myself, but I think it's a great tribute to a classic and find it amazing how you can fit so much love and passion in one single page...

I used a micron pen which is archival ink probably most similar to indian ink. It is a lot different from ballpoint and it actually takes longer to do. You can tell the difference by the stippling. Anything I do that has stippling is a micron. I am currently working on a comic using a cross between micron and ballpoint.

That turned out to be a pretty long explanation. Thanks for the comment. Cheers.

Thank yous. There is definately not enough Popeye fan art. I don't know why, he is easily one of the best classic cartoon characters.

Awesome It's the best popeye comic i've ever seen! And once again great shading, backgrounds and detail. How long did that take you? It must have taken ages!

Oh, and the pic did show up on my watchlist.... EVENTUALLY! But so many other pics haven't

It did take me a little while to submit it, so the delay may have been all me.
