Description
This is of course Raphael the ninja turtle, or as my son calls him jinja todo wafiel. I collected the comics back in the day, before the cartoon hit. Now my three year old son is starting to get into ninja turtle stuff and Ross Campbell keeps going on about them, so I decided to do a fan art.In the tradition of the comic the blood is black and the bandana is gray.

I could never figure out whether or not the Foot Clan were robots or not. I mean, in the video games, they blow up when you kill them. But in the movies they're real people. I think they were real people in the old 80's cartoon (the one I used to watch), too, but there were endless supplies of them.
Anyways, sorry for the rant. Even though I'm 22, I get nostalgic sometimes.

The foot clan proper were never robots. In the 80's cartoon, there were robotic foot soldiers, but they were just there for censorship reasons.

Putting robots in is a thing they do for cartoons and video games so they don't get busted for violence. It is okay to stab a robot, but not to stab a person.

Nope, that is the whole picture. Often in the comic they would have frames where the turtles are stabing or swinging at an enemy out of frame and blood spurting up. Typically they are attacking members of the Foot, though not always.

I thought about doing that while I was working on the piece, but eventually decided against it. I wanted to do a straight up tribute to the comic, which was all black and white.

The print quality is sublime, although the white could be a little more opaque... The tee is Fruit of the Loom so that's okay... I have worn it with honour already!

It's hard not to love these guys, even if their history has been more than a little spotty. Really cool work. Your pen skills are awesome here. They usually are, but I love the mask.

All the work I do is fast paced high pressure. tattoo design, graphic design, comics. I have kinda gotten to a point where I feel like if I am not drawing I am wasting my time (Aside from spending time with Noah) I don't really watch TV or anything like that, occassionally I play video games. Mostly I draw.

the tutles were such original character ideas. They are classics
I am noticing something else about some of your pieces that I really like, is when you do this creative cropping. I really love having certain things out of sight and focusing in on the intensity in his face and pose. the rest falls into place and is really unnecessary. It delivers such a different feeling.
I read the title in my watch and instantly i knew what was going to be here when i clicked. haha, whenever me and my cousins played ninja turtles they made me be april and i was always pissed because all i ever got to do was faint then get saved i was so sick of it. I wanted to kick ass too but if i tried they would be like "THATS NOT WHAT HAPPENS" and i would have to play dead until saved....

Cropping definately makes things look more dramatic.
April actually contributes more than just being saved in the comic and in the new cartoon, at least as far as I have seen.
