Description
Sorry for the stiffness of the pose, was mostly designing the armor and added a background and flavor text at the last moment.I'm not sure where the chest/shoulder/gauntlet's style came from, I believe it was from Someone Else's design (No Idea who if anyone recognizes it send me a comment and I'll credit them) but I hope I modified it to be somewhat more original.
Not sure the materials but the chest piece is translucent so I'm going with clear rubber for that part maybe dragon hide armor for the other parts kinda fused magically the shield is made from magic energy
The pole arm is a naginata-style with a slight curve to the base side as well it also has an attached sword-breaker in the cross-guard.

Maybe the concept of rubber armor but not the design that I can recall. But rubber armor predates even that.

Well the cursed armor has to have a positive side-effect, or nobody would ever get talked into trying it on - well a lot fewer anyways.

Sure, but what adventurer puts on strange suits without having the mage test it first? Cursed items usually radiate a beneficial magic of some sort to sucker people in.
Chatting with my roommate inspired the idea of a group of adventurer's who need a henchman convincing some poor sucker that they'll bring him in as an apprentice, and kit him out with some of their left-over magic items - without bothering to tell him that they're kitting him out with all of their cursed items. Nothing really dangerous, just things that make his life "interesting."

lol Perhaps a glamour or it was hidden from detection spells

Of course in the first edition of AD&D the Mage had to "wear" the item as it was meant to be in order to identify it, which meant that if it was cursed, the mage was cursed. Which was pretty entertaining because the Remove Curse spell was much much higher ranked than the Identify spell, so the mage could end up cursed with all sorts of items for several levels before anybody in the party could remove it. Which could be another little entertaining story.
But yeah, the standard thing was to put on a beneficial magic that was easier to identify, and most adventurer's would stop at that and assume they could figure out any other "advantages" on their own later. Hiding the curse so that it couldn't be identified would be even more extreme and expensive for the caster, but the more obsessed cursers would do it.

Maybe baffle them with balderdash? 5 or 6 minor benifits with the curse slipped in as a rider on one of the benefits say the gender-change slipped in with a minor regen?

WickedPrince In reply to DPRagan [2016-04-30 06:26:03 +0000 UTC]
Or you give them a bunch of minor items that have small benefits, and mix in one with a minor benefit and a curse. Girdles of Giant Strength were so common and so useful that you could often sucker somebody into trying a girdle on without getting it Identified first, and then they'd discover it was the Girdle of Masculinity/Femininity Change. Now try combining both girdles into one item and you end up with people actually considering wearing it even when they know what it does. Then you slip in something like "The Collar of Command" which increases Charisma, at the expense of reducing Wisdom. The wearer becomes more beautiful and able to grab people's attention, but also more submissive - more susceptible to OTHERS commands.

lol Part of what you mentioned reminded me of Roy and he Order of the Stick.
The latter part made me wonder about Diane Iguana Petplay part 3?

I only read a few of those Order of the Stick comics, so not sure what you mean.
Your suggestion has me updating Diana again, but no idea really where to do with a story. There were lose ends, but not really enough to wrap a story around. At least that I can imagine.

But I did find the fact that Roy got changed into a girl and he was still wearing the same clothes and still bald amusing. In one of the tabletop games I play we have a mostly absent player who plays a Changeling (Eberon-type) character who is always shapeshifting trying to get an advantage. As the party's Bard - who would certainly notice such things - I've noted that his clothing and gear never changes, so he's always recognizable to US.
