They're called pistons. They are what make a car move.
Great idea and a great job doing it, but the render is a big jaggy and the glow thing you got going on doesn't do much for me. I dunno, maybe it would look good if it was rendered better or with a different material.
What program did you use to do that? I would love to get my hands on the file for this; just so I could have a look see at how you did it. Send me a msg if you don't mind.
