Description

Talk about putting your blood, tears, and sweat into your work; I had a bloody nose while doing this and had to go in and digitally remove any stains. Totally worth it, though.

I remember back in 1995 there was a commercial for Sumo Turtle Action figures. (Click here for an in depth review for one of the figures dinosaurdracula.com/blog/tmnt-… ) I remember wanting to buy a Sumo April, but such a figure never materialized. So, I decided to take it upon myself to design one. A lot's changed since the 1990's action figures, so I of course designed this April to fit in with the more with the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Classics figures by Playmates, with sculpt and articulation inspired by the great Marvel Legends toy line.

As you can see, she has 34 points of articulation: Balljointed head, hinged neck, balljointed biceps/shoulders, hinged elbows, swivel wrists, hinged wrists, swivel chest, balljointed hips/thighs, double hinged knees, swivel calves, swivel/hinge ankles, and hinged toes. I like to think the articulation doesn't compromise the sculpt.

I also took it upon myself to provide a color code for her paint job.

I knew I wanted to harken back to the Sumo Turtles line and give her an action feature, and yet I didn't want to compromise the figure itself in anyway, so I borrowed a page from the Spider-Man Classics toy line and decided to give her accessories that had action features of some sort. Thus, I gave her in-character accessories: Microphone nunchucks, (you can just move the figure's arms by yourself and they'll swing about), a pizza launching briefcase, and camcorder boa staff as well as a metallic Kowabunga Collector Coin. She also comes with interchangeable hands not pictured here: Gripping hands for accessories (as shown here), fists, and open hands.

I thought I'd also do a bio for this figure, just like the other Sumo Turtles had:

"Sumo April O'Neil: The Gigantic Jiggly Newscaster!

Accessories: Camcorder boa staff, pizza-launching briefcase, microphone nunchucks, and metallized Kowabunga Collector Coin.

Massive, mighty, and meaty, April O'Neil is ready to stomp and jiggle her way into any fray her Sumo Turtle friends do! Armed with her secret newscaster weapons and super sumo movies, this large, luscious newscaster is able to take on any foe, particularly FOOT minions or the evil Shredder himself, be it with her thick, thunderous thighs crushing their heads like walnuts in a vice, or belly slamming her opponents into the dirt. When she's not taking down her foes, she's piling on the pizza pounds with the Sumo Turtles at their hideout, filling her big, bouncy, blubbery Buddah-belly hang to her delight. You'll always know when she's coming, be it from her quaking footsteps or Rascal News Scooter (SOLD SEPERATELY). Just be sure you get out of her way or have a pizza or two (dozen) ready for when she does!"
