if India was that big stretching form Afghanistan to Vietnam i think yes there would be the Vietnam war
but there will be no war in Afghanistan cause Russia was trying to reach India as a second goal in 1976 and earlier
cause Russia and India were friends (BF) 

(also Vietnam war was spurted by china as all ways)

well the northern border is bordering china OK!
so if you think of how did the communist came to power the answer is~china gave the resistance the ammunition(guns), supplies(food) and even some solders to fight against American force

(basically china was helping the communist to fight against American force in Vietnam)   
it was all happening in secret.
