Although I haven't seen the 1971 movie (I would like to), I have seen the Tim Burton movie from 2005, so in spite of the differences, I have an idea on which characters would fit which for this recast of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. This has been on my mind since and have done their own takes on the movie. I would have picked the template that's for the 2005 film, but I'm going for this one as it has much more roles to give the characters that would fit, and while it will be mainly Sonic-themed, it will have various characters from other franchises too.
