Description
Suspended in the darkness of the universe I float, the flower of my consciousness gradually beginning to bloom. The sultry sound of a heartbeat encompasses all, shadows and silhouettes move before my eyelids accompanied by subtle sounds outside my little world. Strange feelings, new feelings, any feeling at all is something new to one who has up until now felt nothing. I slowly open my eyes and try to look around but its cramped, my little world seeming to get smaller. Not really worried about this I study my environment and try to move but can only wiggle, noticing that the silhouettes were my tail, legs and wings. Suddenly becoming aware that I have a physical body the sensations come rushing in all at once and I lay still, simply enjoying the feeling of being. A loud squeaking sound startles me, and it takes a few seconds for me to realize that I had made the sound. I make the sound again, pleased at my achievement. Eventually, however, I become active again and press up against the walls of the universe, wanting to explore beyond my little world.

The wall feels smooth and warm to the touch and I can sense that there is something on the other side, sounds and even some light filtering in. Squeaking back at those sounds in response I push against it a little harder in hopes of moving through it, but it doesn’t seem to work that way. If only I could just move a little more! Frustrated, I shake my head and startle myself when I bump into the walls. A loud crack reverberates throughout the world as a little horn on the tip of my nose breaks through! Stopping to study the crack and peek through I see nothing but red, bright and dancing. Holding still for a few moments in silence I withdraw away from the crack, unsure for the first time if it was even safe on the other side. A minute goes by before I start tapping at the crack with my horn in hopes of at least getting a better look through it, chittering softly as I work. A fine hairline crack splits all the way down the side and out of sight and my field of vision grows, revealing a whole other world that dwarfs my own! So much to see, so many questions, and I hadn’t even entered this strange world yet.

Movement in the other world catches my eye and I freeze still, watching and waiting to see what it is. The movement goes away and after a while I continue chipping away at the walls, making good progress as a whole piece breaks away and falls off. Now just about split apart, the wall starts to fall away and I tumble out onto my back. Looking around at all that I can, taking in the bright lights and scents and colors, I spot the movement again and roll onto my paws. A man comes close, looking gigantic he crouches down to stare at me and makes strange noises with his mouth. I chirp back at the strange creature and wobble on my legs, slowly lowering myself onto my belly and stretch my neck outwards towards him when another creature comes up beside him. My nose wiggles as I sniff the air for danger, tongue flicking out at the new arrival. She makes more noises with her mouth, although of a higher octave, and she seems pleased. I decide they seem friendly enough, perhaps they might even help me find my way around this new world.

I reach out towards them mentally, but their minds seem cluttered as if they had never communicated in this way or exercised this function. Apparently I had gotten something through to them as they seem a bit startled, quieting down and exchange looks with each other. The woman leaves and a few minutes later comes back with a warm moist cloth and slowly moves towards me with it. Alarmed, I back up but there is nowhere to go. I look to my little world but it lays broken in shards, there was no returning now. I look up just in time to see her pick me up in the warm cloth, she covers me up all but my head, gently rubbing all the bits of egg off my scales. She makes more sounds with her mouth, pointing at me. Tilting my head I chirp back at her, again trying to reach out to her mind but again its hard to get through. Looking surprised again, she studies me a little closer and pushes her finger gently but firmly at my nose, eliciting a squeal from me. “Draco”, She says. Again I simply squeak up at her, finally filtering through into her mind. I instantly understand what she is trying to communicate, but lose my hold before I can learn anything else. She quickly sets me down again and looks at the man, making noises at each other quietly.

Looking around as they talk, I stare in awe at all the things there are to see, finding even the ground to be interesting. I wiggle my way out of the blanket and start to explore, peering down over the edge of the box my egg was kept in at the carpet far below. I make as if to try to climb over the edge and a giant hand comes out of nowhere and picks me up, replacing me in the middle of the box. Seeing that it’s just the woman I look around some more and return to where my egg was. Nosing the unremarkable bits of broken eggshell, I wonder how I ever fit in it; how this could have ever been the universe I had just left behind not too long ago. Perplexed, I continue exploring and come to the other side of the box, looking over the edge again to the carpet below. Sneaking a glance up at the woman I reach a paw up to the side and start making my way over, but again the hand comes over and returns me to the middle of the box. Tired, I simply curl up there and rest; all that effort to break through into this brand new world seems to have taxed me of all my energy. Perhaps later I will explore further, but for now I rest.
