Description
Leaves rustle along the ground in an autumn breeze, filling the air with humid moisture and a slight chill that seems welcome to every animal in the forest. The trees filled with color and fragrance, the air strong with the signs of another sweet summers end. Nestled in a bed of grass and flowers rests a lone dragonling, enjoying the vestiges of what was just recently a comfortable nesting ground. A flash of light, dazzle of color catches his attention. Looking up he spies a large orange leaf falling out into the void, loftily making its way down through the canopy directly above him. Enraptured by its slow graceful decent, he marveled at how much it reminded him of himself in flight. So distracted in the beauty of the woods was he that he failed to notice he was being stalked by a predator, barely visible save for a pair of eyes watching through some bushes a few yards behind. The bushes quiver ever so slightly, dropping a berry or two as the predator makes his move.Leaping into the air he forms an offensive position, blotting out the greenfiltered sunlight so only his silhouette sparkles above the drake. Yet still, gazing undisturbed at the falling leaf as it makes it's way halfway to the floor, the hatchling did not notice his assailant. Falling out of the sunlight the predator becomes visible as a spellcaster, he casts out his hand at the little dragon and lightning crackles accross his digits rolling off before converging and igniting as a massive bolt. Striking strait down and true on the drake, a flash of light signifies it had struck target, smoke and billowing flames alight on nearby trees as the lone leaf lands before the hatchling as a dry crumbly shell of what a leaf should be. The dragon blinks and tilts his head, sniffing at the leaf as if not even noticing the bolt of lightning, in fact he hadnt for he was an elemental dragon and thus immune to any elemental attacks.
Frustrated, the mage switches the stones and casts a fiery blue flame at the dragon, chilling his scales but doing more damage to the leaf than anything freezing it solid and making it more fragile than already it was. Seeming more startled at his leaf changing states so quickly than the fact that he was being attacked from behind, for he was still quite blissfully oblivious, he perks his ears and leans in for a closer look at this curious leaf he had found. With a cry of rage the spellcaster pulls out every stone in his arsenal until finally he gets to the shiniest, brightest stone...his diamond. He looks at it and frowns as if putting all the blame into this one stone for not having any special powers at all, he lobs it at the dragon in anger. In perhaps a stroke of luck the stone strikes the hatchling right square on the back of the head, he swoons a bit and falls forward onto his tummy.
The mage snorts, just glad to have finished what he had come to do he lands in front of the dragon to collect his stone, looking down at that poor misshapen abused leaf stricken down in its final flight into the great forest floor. He grins, thinking it slightly humorous that the leaf had taken more damage from him than the dragon, he stomps the leaf and turns to leave feeling good after such an exorcise. The crunching sound brings the dragon to, looking around and rubbing his head he spies the leaf, broken and shattered and the only one who had bits of it still stuck to his feet was just a few feet away. Looking back down at his wonderful leaf, the mystical miracle wonder he had found just a few minutes prior, his leaf, gone. He reaches out a paw to poke at the bits and the crumble away to nothing, carried one last time on a dance to eternity on a gust of wind the magical leaf...gone forever.
With a small cry he watches it dissappear into the autumn sky, the mage turns to find he hadnt finished the dragon after all. The dragon turns to the mage and for a brief moment their eyes meet, furrowed brows or eye ridges respectively as they both prepare to attack. The spellcaster grabs a stick off the ground and lunges into the air to attack knowing elemental attacks wont help him here, the stick arched over his head preparing to slam down upon the smaller whelp. The dragon crouches low, wiggling his hind end and with a squeaky little growly roar of defiance he...jumps out of the way! and in his place a stone serpent mouth opens up under the spellcaster, gulps him down, and disappears under the surface of the earth depositing him somewhere he wouldn't have too much trouble digging himself up. The dragon wasn't cruel you know! He goes back to his nest and sighs, chin on his forepaws as he stares at the few ice crystals left where his magical leaf had once been, wishing he had his treasure back. But a flash of light, a dazzle of color, the brisk snap as another leaf falls from the sky, he looks up and watches as another leaf takes its leap of faith into the unknown.
