In the year 1995, one year after the M18 entered service, a request was made by the Silent Dragons, Draconon’s special forces, for an integrally suppressed variant of the rifle. Observation of Renarda’s special forces in military exercises demonstrated the practicality and viability of such weapons, so in November of that year the order was given to begin production of the M18A1.
