Ore Children are small humanoid (or feral) beings (around 6in or 15cm tall) created when a large amount of magical energy condenses near mineral deposits. The resulting ore children take from the surrounding rock and minerals to create their ring and body's mineral core. Occasionally an unfortunate jewelry store affected by a stray condensation may create a group of confused ore children and very frustrated jewelers.

Their bodies are pretty sturdy with thick skin and a core made from the ore child's corresponding mineral(s), making them pretty heavy for their size (though they levitate most of the time). The average ore child typically has parts of their mineral core exposed, most frequently on the cheeks, shoulders, elbows, knees, hips, back of their hands, top of feet, and running from the back to the tip of their relatively thick tail; having them show up elsewhere is uncommon. The mineral core can literally peek out anywhere on an ore child, but more exposed mineral showing means less magic power, as it takes a lot of energy to sustain a form that covers all of their core.
Their exposed mineral parts are really sensitive!

The main identifying feature of ore children is the comparatively large ring(s) that levitates around their main body, comprised mainly of the base mineral the ore child was born from. As this ring is a main source of energy for them, prolonged removal will lead to being no longer to sustain the humanoid form, leaving the ring intact with fragmented pieces of the body's mineral behind, essentially dead. Ring poaching is a real danger to them, so they are typically extremely cautious of others outside their species.

Though if an ore child loses energy normally (with its main ring(s) undamaged) and runs low, they will transform into an egg form to 'hibernate' until enough magical energy is replenished to sustain a humanoid form again. Depending on the specific ore child's personality, they can either take shorter, more frequent hibernation periods eager to return to humanoid form, or sleep for an extended time to ensure they can stay around longer when they transform back.
