History: At some point between the two Blood Valentine Wars, agents of the Earth Federation stole a prototype transforming mobile suit, dubbed the Proto-Saviour, from a ZAFT military installation. While the stolen mobile suit was used by special operatives to sow distrust between the Earth and ZAFT, the blueprints were used to develop a high-speed aerial interceptor.

Unlike many of the designs derived from Gundam-type mobile suits, the Dive Harpy (known as the Saviour Dagger in early development) reused few parts from previous generations to keep engineers from having to redesign the already-effective transformation system. Booster units based on those used by the Raider Full Spec gave Dive Harpies a wider flight range or the ability to reach low-orbit to attack enemies during vulnerable re-entry periods. The units were also equipped with a Mirage Colloid Jamming System, reducing the enemy's ability to perform evasive maneuvers or launch counter-missiles.

The initial prototypes would see extensive use during the Break the World, intercepting pieces of Junius 7 as it fell to Earth. Though the attack still caused countless casualties, the Dive Harpies were considered a success and performed well enough to merit a small production line of fifteen units, though the early production models lacked Trans-Phase Armor to save on energy use.

By the time a second run of Dive Harpies was ready to be built, OMNI had successfully reverse-engineered ZAFT's Deuterion Beam Energy Transfer System. This advance gave the Dive Harpy the ability to be recharged mid-flight by specially-equipped carriers, making Trans-Phase Armor a practical consideration on these units. The second run was subsequently equipped with Trans-Phase Armor and the Deuterion Beam Energy Transfer System while the three prototypes and the first production run were upgraded with the Deuterion Beam Energy Transfer System.

Thirty-three Dive Harpies were construction by the end of the Second Bloody Valentine War, successfully intercepting many ZAFT supply vehicles. Many of the units were lost during Operation Ragnarok while attempting to intercept ZAFT troops dropping on the base from orbit due to the firing of the Nibelung weapon.

It does, but it looks more or less identical to Saviour Gundam when transformed.
