Aaaaaah, I managed to get out of that awful art block I've had since january or so.Oh, Beast... He's simply one of my first obsessions when I went to see the movie in theaters as a kid. I've been so much impressed by this character and the whole thing as well. That's why Beauty & The Beast is still one of my favorite Disney movies ever.
Media : markers & colored pencils on orange paper + Photoshop CS3 (for a few coloring modifications).

Well, I really don't know, because so many great artists here have already made stunning art of her. I'm not sure I'd succeed.

Its up to you, but I think you'll do a great job. because it will have your style. just because its been done before, doesn't mean your style of Belle wouldn't be equally stunning. everybody has their own idea of whats really cool in their eyes. that's why its so important that everybody does their thing, their will always be someone who sees the beauty in it. anyway, look forward to seeing your artwork in the future!!

As a kid, The Beast scared the hell out of me. Saw him in theaters along with my dad and sister, and every time he spoke, every time he roared, every time he lost his temper, I just looked at the floor. Now, as an adult, I'm still scared...but the fear is driven more by respect. And seeing likenesses of the Beast in such a striking piece of work, like this one, reminds me all the more of why he remains one of my favorite Disney anti-heros.
The scale of this Beast is represented by this head shot, in that every part of him fills the frame, feels larger than life. Animals will oftentimes try to make themselves look bigger so as to ward off predators... unless they are predators themselves. And that's what the Beast is: an alpha predator. He has a human mind, but all the grotesque parts of his nature have manifested as these animalistic traits throughout his body...some of which are represented here. The horns, the mane, the broad face and pronounced tusk-like canines are all very threatening, very standoffish... and yet, they are all regal, in a way. The mane is very much like the mane of a lion, the 'king of beasts'. The horns are reminiscent of Maleficent, in that they are a crown of sorts...though very sinister in nature, commanding both fear and respect. Even the goatee holds a certain royal panache. But the horns and mane are represented here with rich blacks, ebonies, browns and crimsons, giving the Beast weight, presence, drawing all eyes towards him as any prince or king would as they enter a room. I like the tusks, if only because I grew up with an under bite myself, but also because those teeth are the first things the wolves encounter in the woods when the beast comes to Belle's aid. This is a Prince that doesn't just preen or strut about like a peacock...he is a warrior, willing to throw himself into the fray to defend that which is his (or that which he loves).
Of course the eyes are the one carry-over from his form, equally important to his character and dashing represented here. They are not as bright and humane as one might expect...but rather, and perhaps more appropriately, they are sad, drawn, pulled back. Yes they seemed to be arched almost in anger, but I see a weariness, a subtle misery that comes from years and years of being trapped in a body that is not their own, cursed to be a daily, physical reminder of just how far he has fallen. Now personally, I think the Beast looks better as THE BEAST. Prince Adam looks fine but he's not very distinctive, not very unique. The Beast has three-dimentional quality that not only makes him memorable, but that also makes him dynamic. So even though he has dark circles under his piercing blue eyes, he is still more handsome and distinctive than the form he wishes to return to. That's coming from a heterosexual male. But I understand his desperation, his loneliness, his great burden...if only because it's written all over his face in heartbreaking detail.
An amazingly detailed piece, patiently executed and wonderfully realized. Very impressive Dracunnum. A new favourite of mine.
