Description So I'm working on a little project and I don't know which shading technique I should use: classic cel-shading (right) or gradient shading (left).

So I'm posting this not only to give you guys a little preview of my project (it's nothing much. Although it might turn into something I could sell. :3), but also to let you guys decide which style I should use. I personally think I'm leaning a bit more towards the gradient, but either way works.

I do really like how the Charmander came out though.

Hey i really like your style, and i personally prefer the gradient image ^_^ it depends what your project is tho tbh and what the theme is, judging by the way you drew char, im imagining a kind of realistic themed pokemon project :/ anyway if this was the case i think the gradient would work well but both are really kl good job if you get a chance maybe you could have a look at my gallery, id love to know what you think of my work

Thank you. <3 Yeah, I guess the gradient style works best. Your gallery is nice. Not half bad.

first of all, i love how you drew charmander! my favourite starter pokemon. ...and i'm actually going to say i prefer the traditional cell shaded one, despite the fact that most people seem to be liking the gradient... i think it looks a little cleaner, but also just because i really like cell shading. thats not to say i don't like the other one, i'd love to see this project either way.

XD Thanks! Yeah, Charmander is pretty cool and Charizard is awesome! But he's not my most favorite. IDK which starter is, though, so... XD

Nice to see someone going against the crowd. XD

as you know, charizard is my favourite, so i was pretty happy when i saw little charmander in my inbox. and lol. actually what i really like are his eyes.... they're so big and shiny and blue

XD Yeah, I do love how the eyes turned out. <3

And I have a feeling that this is gonna be the best one of them all in my little project. My Cyndaquil I just finished doesn't look as good as the Charmander and the Chimchar looks like it's on crack or something.

i'm sure they look fine! ooh, charmander AND three fire types... you're spoiling me! i always find chimchar hard to draw... he always looks like a crappy chibi monkey. so i usually end up drawing monferno instead.

XD Yeah, there are five in total, along with five Water-Types and five Grass-Types. Guess what they are. XD I've honestly never drawn a Chimchar before.

i really can't wait to see this! i doodle all sorts of things in the morning before school, i always seem to wake up much too early.

There's actually three things. :3 I doodle all sorts of things IN school. That's actually where all of the Pokemon are being drawn for this (excluding the computer portion).

gradient shading looks better for machines and objects, while the cell shading looks better for organic creatures

For me, both can be used on either, but yeah, I see what you mean.

yeah, thats just my opinion but to me gradient shading looks more metalic XD

The Charmander looks so damn cute. x3

Personally, I'm a sucker for soft shading. But that's just me.

Both shading styles would work but I think I'm leaning toward the gradient.
