Description

“All the world will be your enemy, Prince With a Thousand Enemies. And whenever they catch you, they will kill you.

But first they must catch you .”

I read Doe of Deadwood  by recently and it’s easily become one of my favorite comics– and more importantly, one of my top favorite ‘sapient’-animal pieces of media. I can’t tell u– as someone passionate abt ethology and proper nonhuman rep– how refreshing it is to see this level of nuance when it comes to the social dynamics of different species and their interspecies relations. esp the predator/prey dynamics, which I honestly have NEVER seen properly handled in any other similar kind of media, so fucking kudos there

anyways, if y’all haven’t read this comic yet, I HIGHLY recommend it, but TW for gore/death. personally I think the art style makes the gore less graphic, but I’m also p hardy to that kinda content, so tread carefully if u are sensitive to that stuff

(also I’m sorry for using the one WD quote that EVERYONE uses in WD fanart, but what can I say…. is a good quote….)

This is so cool! I really love how you incorporated the style of WD's into sequence, especially with all the intricate bark detail on deadwood. Oh Rig, doe with a thousand enemies. I am glad you enjoyed reading DoD, it was such a fun treat for me as well. I think getting to explore the predator/prey thing and different 'cultures' of different herds was my favorite. Neither of my current stories lend as well to that, but I try to touch on new things when I can.

Thank you for making this!

thank you so much, this was a lot of fun to work on!! it was a lot harder than I expected to emulate that intro style, but I'm glad it worked out!

god yes those details were SO cool to read about! I was just gushing with my friend earlier over Eisendahl's recollection of his first vigil at the death of a fellow herd-member, and general deer naming conventions, etc. every little detail adds so much depth, it's so fun to unpack it all.
yeah I totally get that, every story requires attention to different aspects-- I'm just happy you were able to dive so deep with the cultural and pred/prey dynamics with DOD. either way, I love your writing style, so I definitely plan on checking out your other stories, once I find some more free time again haha.
