As for his weight as a human, that's a direct result of transformation. In order to be turned into a horse, mass had to be added. When he or any other Transformed returns to human form, they still have a lot of that mass. It makes them quite tall and very heavy. Aardrin has to be careful on furniture and any floors that seem weak or he'll break through them.
Rather than repeat the words in the actual picture, here's the story in Aardrin's own words as he told it to Calaen (graduate of OC-Training session 12) -
“I find that incredibly sad.” Aardrin shook his head. “Now, I remember my mother distinctly, but she was always around to talk to or to lecture you about something.” He chuckled. “She took her role as Mistress of the Manor very seriously.”
“What about your brother?” Calaen peered at him curiously.
“Ah, Pad, that is Baron Padraic Radbourne officially, he was the person who would encourage me to get into trouble and then get me out of it just as easily.” Aardrin grinned, “And sharp as a well-honed knife, outwitting him was next to impossible, which is probably why High King Gaetan has had such a difficult time with my homeland, I’m sure that Pad has been five steps ahead of his opponent at all times.”
“He sounds like he would be the perfect person to get help from.” Calaen nodded.
“He is also even more stubborn than I am.” Aardrin warned. “He doesn’t trust strangers any farther than he could throw them and since he’s only about so high,” Aardrin held his hand up about four feet off the ground, “That’s not far at all.”
Calaen blinked, “I’ve never heard of anyone being so short, you’re so tall, how did that happen?”
“From what I was able to learn from my mother, my grandmother was that stature as well. My mother was her and Tiernan’s only child, and she died in childbirth. Tiernan raised my mother, with help from Raghnall and Eriantielle.” Aardrin frowned slightly. “You know, that would explain why he was so close to them. It’s like they were family.”
“Interesting.” Calaen scratched his chin, finding this familial connection fascinating. “So, what sent you off from your holding and off into the wild to end up Transformed?”
“Oof. That’s a change of subject.” Aardrin shifted as he took another bite of food. “Well, as you pointed out, me and my brother are very different in stature. A lot of the nobles in the holding didn’t think Pad was capable to take over from my father when he died. My mother thought they were being idiots because they wanted a handsome son to throw their daughters at.” Aardrin rolled his eyes, “Which they were already doing before all this started, seemed like every eligible female had their eyes on me.”
“Sounds dreadful.” Calaen snickered, not sounding sympathetic at all.
Aardrin gave him a dirty look, “It was. It was also mucking about with the political stability of the holding. If I had wanted to take over, I would have, but I didn’t want anything to do with ruling.” He stretched out with a groan before continuing, “So, mother came up with a solution. She knew I was healer gifted, but she also knew I wasn’t interested in getting training. So, she hit me with this: if I didn’t go off to get training with Tiernan I was going to be responsible for my brother’s loss of the holding.”
“That’s a harsh way of putting it.”
“She was right, in a way, so I agreed.” Aardrin gave a sheepish grin. “At least I agreed to leave. I had no intention of going to see Tiernan and get training.”
“But . . .”
“Oh, I ended up there, but that wasn’t the first place I went. I was at the Capital first, getting training as a soldier of the High King’s army.”
“How did you manage that?! And why? Wasn’t your holding under attack at that point?” Calaen looked shocked and appalled.
“Not at that point, it was still at the sniping paperwork back and forth. Not friendly but not full out warfare. Plus, I gave a different name, and I was a very ordinary looking young man compared to most of the other soldiers. Don’t give me that look, I was shorter and more normal looking with solid brown hair.” Aardrin waggled his finger at Calaen as the prince tried to swallow a laugh at the healer describing himself as ordinary.
“I find it interesting that you were at the capital, probably around the time my brother was there. I wonder if you met him.”
“Doubt it, I didn’t have much contact with any high-born.”
“Okay, I’m going to ask because I’ve been dying of curiosity about it.” Calaen leaned forward toward the healer, “How did you end up Transformed?”
“Pure stupidity.” Aardrin sighed. “I got lured in by a pretty face, that turned out to be the High King’s Captain of the Guard’s wife.”
Calaen’s eyes widened, “Captain Len? Dear Gods! It’s a wonder you’re even alive! I knew him personally and he was deviously creative when it came to punishments.”
“Believe me, Transformation was only part of it. I got nearly beaten to death, only my healing powers saved me from being killed. He made sure to accuse me of a lot of things so that I would automatically be Transformed and requested that Shok’Artel make me unique so that I could be located later.” Aardrin snorted, “So, I got the spots.”
“Easy to be spotted.” Calaen snickered and Aardrin threw a roll at him that he ducked, “Careful! Those are hard enough to cause damage!” The prince got himself together, “Well, I can see why it happened, but I’m amazed you managed to escape.”
“Determination and pure luck got me out of there and I immediately headed toward Tiernan’s with the hope that he’d be able to change me back.” Aardrin sighed.
Now, to tackle the Guess Who picture -
The trees and water - Aardrin grew up in a heavily forested canyon area, with a creek in it that was lined with red soil. That's the most literal part of this picture, I'm showing his homeland and the place he's most comfortable. Radbourne means "red creek", so his family is named after the area rather than the other way around.
Family Crest - Aardrin's family is the head of a large foresting/woodland holding. Officially it is called the Radbourne Ironwood Holding, the only place known that grows Ironwood, a type of wood that is treasured for it's durability. It's used for boxes and containers for things that are valuable that need protecting from insect or water damage and also from theft. These are generally beautifully carved as well to add to their value. Occasionally full columns or doors for buildings are provided for construction, but rarely and the person purchasing such things will be expected to pay a large price. Dealing with such a precious commodity takes a great deal of care and ability, Ironwood has to be harvested carefully, both to keep the forest intact and because it is not an easy task to take down even small limbs. Due to this and it's value, the holding is very secretive and protective of the location of the trees and how many people know about them. Outsiders very rarely assist in harvesting, and if they do they are never allowed to leave the holding for fear of releasing the secret. This is why the High King has been trying to take over the area, so he can have the control of the Ironwood. As mentioned above, he hasn't been successful, despite years of trying.
Horse reflecting human - Aardrin, as mentioned above, was Transformed into a horse by Shok'Artel (graduate of OC-Training, Session 13). He is able to be human while he's living with his Grandfather, Wizard-Healer Tiernan and also by means of the amulet he wears, but he is a horse the majority of the time when not in his Grandfather's magical grove.
Amulet in Aardrin's hair/mane - I guess I didn't make the picture clear enough, but this isn't the same as the family crest above his head. This item was made by Tiernan to assist Aardrin in being human occasionally. It will only work for a full day, he will revert to horse the same time the next day, so it's a very temporary solution. But, it's better than being a horse the whole time. He can't become a human again until the amulet has recharged fully and this time frame depends on the ambient magic around him. This also allows Aardrin to speak to Rysta mind to mind when he's a horse, even at a distance. Before he gets the amulet he can only "speak" to her as a horse when she's in contact with him.
Green hand - This represents both Aardrin's healing abilities and his Grandfather. This was the choice he had to make between getting healing training and becoming a swordsman. He initially didn't want to be a healer, but went to his Grandfather eventually, hoping he could be changed back. He didn't get his wish fully, but he did get training to be a healer and became a very powerful one, which is what his mother suspected from the beginning.
Sword - This was Aardrin's first desire, to be a swordsman to be able to protect his home and family. His mother insisted that he become a healer and protect everyone that way, but he stubbornly resisted. He wanted something more active and felt like healing was too passive for him. His following his dream led him indirectly into becoming a horse, which is the reason I used that particular sword decorated with horses, his stubbornness came at a price. He is quite the good swordsman though, and his extra mass and arm length make him an imposing opponent. Combined with his healing abilities he is nearly unstoppable. The sword is on his left because he's left handed The actual sword was given to him as a gift by Calaen much later in the story.
If you have any additional questions, let me know! I didn't want to get into too much more since some of it will come up in later tasks, but feel free to ask anything you want and I'll answer it the best I can without giving out spoilers
BONUS - Here's what it would look like if Aardrin had various kinds of beards (just for fun)
