Occupation: Healer

Yes, she is tiny, a lot of you got that correct. She would be classified as having dwarfism from her stature alone, but she has regular proportions, unlike Sharisse (Tiernan’s wife) and Padraic (Aardrin’s brother). Her height is due to not getting the right amount of food while she was growing up, making her stunted. It’s bad when a healer doesn’t get enough to eat, especially as a child.

Rori shows a lot of her emotions with tears, if the emotions are strong enough, she’s going to cry.

Rori was very young when her parents gave her up to Lord Jeesel of Sun Eye to protect her from High King Gaetan’s decree that all Healers be handed over. She doesn’t remember them very well or much anything else about her early childhood. All she remembers is being kept hidden by Lord Jeesel, basically his personal captive healer. She isn’t even sure she ever had a surname; she is simply Rori.

As she grew older Lord Jeesel became more and more paranoid about keeping Rori a secret from everyone, eventually locking her up in a large but windowless cell, pampered but unable to escape. She was finally freed when a tall, white haired man named Snorer and a blond man named Yokov Dell set her free, telling her that Jeesel was dead, and she was welcome to leave. After healing Yokov and his centaur friends she decided to join them rather than stay in Sun Eye, eager to see new sights and meet new people for the first time in her life.

She also fell in love with Yokov and spent a great deal of time trying to convince the man that she was serious about pursuing him.

She’s a self-taught healer so she’s not fully trained but she wants to learn as much as she can to help whoever she finds because she was kept from helping people while under Lord Jeesel’s commands.

So a lot of the guesses got some of the things right, but not a lot got all of the hints A lot of really good guesses though!

Rori is a healer, no other magic, but she is a very powerful healer which her parents discovered very early on. They were afraid for her life because right about the time Rori’s powers manifested, High King Gaetan was gathering up healers to be taken to the Capital, and none of them ever returned. Rori’s parents wanted their daughter to stay safe, but they knew they didn’t have the power to keep her safe from the High King, so they went to the Lord of Sun Eye, Jeesel. Lord Jeesel agreed to take Rori in and protect her from the High King. What he didn’t tell her parents is that he had his own reason to keep her safe. If he had his own healer, it would benefit him greatly, he had grand plans of selling Rori’s abilities when she got older, especially since the High King now controlled the access to the healers he had taken.

Lord Jeesel made sure that Rori was educated, and although he didn’t have the ability to have other healers train her, Rori was given access to every book about healing that Lord Jeesel could get hold of by any means necessary. She is self-taught for the most part, and although she is powerful there are a few things she has never dealt with, so she doesn’t really know how to heal them properly.

As Rori grew older her need to help other people grew stronger. She found ways to sneak out and help the people of Sun Eye but was always caught before she could do much. Jeesel realized he needed to make sure she stayed put because if the High King found out about her it would mean trouble for him and his position as Lord of Sun Eye. Eventually, Lord Jeesel had to resort to locking Rori up, making her his prisoner, under the guise of protecting her.

Lord Jeesel became more and more paranoid about keeping his position and his healer a secret, so much so that when representatives of the new High King, Calaen, appeared, Jeesel tried to kill them. They survived the attempt and returned, and Lord Jeesel was killed in the final confrontation with the High King’s Agent, Yokov Dell.

Rori was freed by Agent Yokov Dell and his partner, Snorer, and joined them with their centaur companions, Siglyn and Reidalv, back to Doumerlas. She eventually becomes a Healer of the new High King and Yokov’s travelling companion back to the centaur herd to negotiate a treaty with them for High King Calaen.

Rori and Siglyn become good friends and the mind healer helps Rori deal with a lot of what happened to her as a captive in Sun Eye so that she is able to pursue a relationship with Yokov and not be haunted by her past. Siglyn also gives Rori the centaur language (Siglyn's mind healing abilities make it possible to put that kind of information directly in someone's head) so that she can converse with Yokov in his native language (which is very similar to centaur).

Rori is so determined to learn more about healing that she will accept lessons from any healer she comes across, both human and centaur. She is also very determined to be a permanent part of Yokov's life, if she could just convince him that she's serious.

Now to tackle the Guess Who picture!

Bars and chain – Representing Rori’s literal captivity at the hands of Lord Jeesel. Jeesel is the perfect example of the road to hell being paved with good intentions. He wanted to protect Rori, but then used her for his own benefit. He never treated her like a person, only as an object to be contained and made to do what he wanted.

Blue-white magic breaking the chain – This represents Snorer’s magic freeing Rori from her captivity. Rori didn’t have the ability to free herself. However, Snorer is not a mage of any sort. It’s complicated and I may get into it more in Yokov’s round, but Snorer basically qualifies as an Avatar of the Gods at this point in the story. As such, he can do what the Gods want, and they wanted Rori free.

Rori’s clothing – This shows that she is pampered, given the fanciest clothing, but she’s a bird in a gilded cage. She’d trade it for her freedom in a second.

Rori’s reaching out to the hand – This is her need not only to be set free but to help anyone in pain. Her hand glowing green is her healing power. It also represents her love for Yokov, reaching out to him for support and to support.

Hoof marks – These represent the centaurs in general and specifically Siglyn and Reidalv and also Snorer, who is a former Transformed (he's been through a lot and may be in OCT eventually). They’re big because the centaurs are far bigger than normal horses, also to show how tiny Rori is in comparison to them. The centaurs play a big role in her future.

Wounded hand reaching toward her – The hand belongs to Yokov, he was injured while “fighting” with Jeesel and he’s both reaching for her healing and to help show her the way to freedom. He's a very ordinary man, the hoof marks just show that he is associated with the centaurs and the Transformed. One of you asked about the specific wounds, and yes, they are exactly what happened. But it wasn’t from a sword, he got hit by flying shrapnel from booby traps that Lord Jeesel had set up in quite possibly the most ridiculous “fight” scene I’ve ever written. I’ll cover that next round since that’s a huge demonstration of Yokov’s personality. The greenery behind him is also to show what Rori has to look forward to, a life far nicer than the one she’s lived so far.
