's Session 16 Task 8 - Anger: What triggers your OC's temper? Draw them getting angry.
Late again, but here it is.
Art isn't great, but I'm gonna add bonus writing content to make up for it
Young Tiernan:
This picture is Tiernan angry and about to use his magic because of it. This a normal situation for Rysta, but Tiernan is normally far more controlled and doesn't start glowing when he's angry, but this situation made him lose absolute control for once in his life because his grandson, Padraic was involved, and it was his son-in-law Searlas who earned his anger in this case.
Tiernan found Searlas in his study, looking more brooding than normal. The Baron looked up at the Wizard-Healer, “Did you fix him?”
“There’s nothing to fix, Searlas. He’s perfectly healthy.”“It doesn’t look right. I’ve seen enough babies to know what’s normal.” Baron Searlas Radbourne frowned. “So you’re telling me there’s nothing you can do.”
“Because there’s nothing to be done. Your son . . .” Tiernan glared when Searlas shook his head in denial of that relation and repeated more forcefully, “ . . . your SON is fine.”
The Baron stood and pointed an accusing finger at Tiernan, “You did this, didn’t you!? You’ve be-spelled our first born and made him a freak because you never approved of my marrying your daughter . . . you . . . WIZARD!” The last was spit out like the worst insult that could be uttered.
Tiernan stared at his son-in-law with disbelief at the accusation, then forced himself to respond calmly, if coldly. “I would never do anything hurtful to an innocent child to ‘get back’ at their parents. I don’t do things like that. Especially not to my own blood.” He straightened to his full height and gave his best intimidating glare at the Baron of Radbourne. “Besides, I’ve always viewed your marriage to Shantille as a very good one.”
Searlas frowned at Tiernan in confusion, “What of all those protests? All the forbidding Shantille to see me?”
Tiernan chuckled ruefully, “Surely you know how stubborn your wife is. If I had given my instant approval she would have balked. I knew you and she were meant to be together.”
The Baron’s mouth opened and closed a few times like a landed fish’s. “You’re telling me you told her to stay away . . .”
“To make her see you. Yes.” Tiernan smirked at his son-in-law. “It worked spectacularly well, if I say so myself.”
The Baron of Radbourne stared at the Wizard-Healer, then shook his head in disbelief, “Well, whatever you claim, if you can’t assist with this problem . . .”
Tiernan immediately went from amiable to glaring, “There IS no problem. Your son takes after his grandmother.”
“My mother had no such . . .” the Baron stopped at Tiernan’s expression. It was the look the Wizard-Healer gave students who were being particularly stupid. Searlas stared in disbelief at his wife’s father.
“Yes. Shantille’s mother. MY wife. Your son takes after her.”
Searlas’ face would have been amusing if the situation hadn’t been so serious. Tiernan needed his son-in-law to understand what was going on. The Baron looked to be working through all the information. “How . . . how did she . . . how big was she?”
“Oh, about this tall.” Tiernan held up his hand to his hip.
The Baron’s eyes widened, “How did you . . . I mean . . . how did . . .” He motioned toward the hall vaguely, obviously perplexed.
“Very carefully.” Tiernan chuckled then shook his head sadly. “Unfortunately, circumstances were such that she didn’t survive the birth.”
“Oh.” Searlas shifted uncomfortably, not knowing how to respond to the information just imparted. “Shantille did mention something about that, though she never said her mother was . . . uhm . . . odd.”
Tiernan gritted his teeth and his voice took on a dangerous edge, “Sherisse. Was. Not. Odd. And neither is your son.” Tiernan took another deep breath and tried to calm down before continuing. “Shantille has made sure that the babe will be healthier and more robust than Sherisse ever was. He will survive and he will THRIVE, Searlas! And if I hear of ANY mistreatment or neglect that occurs toward him on your part I will make sure to bring down a curse on your Barony so dreadful that only my daughter and grandson will survive.” Tiernan’s eyes glowed with fury now. “Then you will understand the true nature of a Wizard’s wrath, Baron Radbourne!”
The Baron took a step back from his father-in-law. He’d never seen Tiernan use his powers and he was suddenly afraid of the man. “How? How is a stunted child going to thrive? Much less become my heir?”
“By the GODS, Searlas! The child is your firstborn SON! Doesn’t that mean ANYTHING!?” Tiernan’s voice continued in its threatening and dangerous tone. “There is nothing wrong with the child’s mind. I’m sure he will be not only smart enough but will hopefully inherit his mother’s tact and not take after you in that regard.” The Wizard stepped forward, hand and eyes still glowing. “I need an oath from you, Baron Searlas Radbourne. An Oath that will bind you to your word so that I can leave my daughter and her son with you and know that they will be treated with the utmost care and respect, despite the babe’s appearance!”
The Baron found himself backed against the wall, terrified of the obviously furious Wizard in front of him, “And if I don’t? Do you kill me on the spot and have your King seize my land? What will you do to me if I don’t make this oath?”
“I will wipe your mind of every memory of Shantille. It will be as if she never existed in your life. Then I take her and my grandson with me. You will remember NOTHING. Do you understand? A life completely empty of the love I know you have for my daughter. All because you cannot give me an oath that you will treat your OWN SON as a person and not some deformed freak! Is that what you want, Searlas? Because I am angry enough to do it now!” Both Tiernan’s hands were glowing now and sparks were starting to surround him, he had completely lost his temper and didn’t seem to care.
Old Tiernan:
This angry Tiernan is more of an angry fear, he's angry because Rysta has done something that could endanger her life and his ability to keep her hidden and safe. So he's yelling at her and hoping he'll be able to make sure she doesn't do anything like it again.
Rysta yelled triumphantly when the last of their inanimate foes fell to the ground. She waved her focus above her head and stood up on Aardrin's back, “HA! You cannot even think about defeating me! I AM THE GREAT AND FEARLESS SORCERESS . . .”
“RYSTA!” Tiernan’s voice boomed angrily across the field. “AARDRIN!”
“Eep!” Rysta stopped and dropped back down on Aardrin’s back with a thump as Aardrin stopped dead. A stray missile hit her in the side of the face, and she winced before turning to face Tiernan. “Ah, Master Tiernan, I thought . . .”
Tiernan faced the two of them with his arms crossed as he gave Rysta a scathing look, “You thought I had worn myself out and you could take advantage of the lull to destroy my furniture and announce to anyone mage gifted or otherwise that you were out here blasting away?”
Rysta looked sheepish and rubbed the back of her head in embarrassment. Of course, that was a pretty accurate description of what was going on, and she couldn’t exactly lie to him. You didn’t lie to a Wizard, especially one as powerful as Tiernan, “I did shield the area and I was going to fix it all . . .”
“You mean like the last time you did something like this?”
The question caught Rysta off guard. Her face froze in shock, “Last time?” She blinked in disbelief, “How? Oh . . . gods . . .” She slumped a little lower on Aardrin’s back as he shook his head in resignation.
Tiernan pointed accusingly at her, “One of my good chairs disintegrated under me a week ago. After investigation I noticed it was suspiciously loaded with badly cast repair spells, most cast by my student the last time I had done a major casting and was recovering. I decided I’d better see what was going on, so I made sure I had just enough energy to keep track of you this time.” He crossed his arms and frowned at her, “What have you got to say for yourself, young lady?”
“Well . . . I . . . I was just practicing . . .”
Tiernan scowled as he interrupted her, “PRACTICING?! BATTLE MAGIC?! On my FURNITURE?! Out in the open when I specifically FORBADE you spell casting outside the GROVE?!”
She winced at his yelling. He didn’t often get mad, but when he did it was amazing how powerful his lungs became. She looked angrily back at him from her perch on Aardrin’s back, raising her own voice, “I need the PRACTICE and the grove is too small! If I’m going to be Sorceress for hire, it’s necessary! I’m going to have to know offensive AND defensive magic!”
“You are NOT going to be a Sorceress for Hire, wandering about aimlessly! I haven’t been teaching you castle defense for nothing!”
This was an old argument and one she was more than happy to continue. Her ire was up, and at thirteen she had no fear when she felt she was in the right. She jumped off Aardrin’s back and stood to face Tiernan. He towered over her, but she wasn’t intimidated now that she was angry. “Damn Kings have enough defenses! I want to defend people who actually NEED defending.” She gave him a defiant look that said that she wasn’t backing down.
