Description Superhero Name: Sol

Real Name: Susan Lancaster

Height: 5'10"

Weight: 140 lbs

Age: 20 years old

Relationship Status: Single

Top Airspeed: Mach 1

Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual

Relatives: Bill Lancaster (Father), Amanda Lancaster (Mother), Sally Lancaster (Older Sister), Effie Lancaster (Older Sister) Bill Lancaster Jr. (Older Brother), Christopher Lancaster (Younger Brother)

Powers: Generation of massive amounts of heat and radiation, as well as the ability to fire electromagnetic blasts that can fry electronics. When fully powered up, Sol's body turns into a miniature star. In this form she is able to fly and project powerful flares. Sol can control her heat, radiation, and electromagnetic outputs even when in star form, allowing her not to damage any nearby objects or people as long as  they don't touch the sphere that surrounds her body.

Weaknesses: Sol can only remain at full power for a limited time. That time is decreased if she has to burn objects to protect herself. The best way to defeat her is to keep bombarding her with objects until she runs out of energy.

Personality: Sol is the quietest member of the Rusted Gears Initiative. She doesn't like to engage other people all that much. She often struggles with chronic depression, which is most likely the reason for her antisocial behavior. She has a rather bleak outlook on life, and this can sometimes make her kind of a pain for her teammates to deal with, but when she does decide to open herself up to someone she can be a very loyal and useful friend.

Backstory: Susan Lancaster was born the fourth of Bill Lancaster's five children. Bill was a small-time politician who seemed to be something of a miracle worker for the local government. He had made improvements to the economy and the public school system that had won him near-universal public approval. When he wasn't working, Bill was quite the family man, and he had a special fondness for Susan. At the time, Susan was an outgoing, happy little child and Bill adored her for it. Susan, in turn, developed a great respect for her father's integrity and drive to do good, especially as she got older and started watching the news. She saw politicians cheating and scheming left and right, but her father was always her hope that things could get better.

Bill eventually decided that he should try to make use of his success and try to run for the senate. His stellar record and almost unparalleled charisma allowed him to just scrape by with a victory, despite not being a very big name. For six years, Susan was the daughter of a senator, and even though Bill didn't have as much time for her or her siblings anymore, she took consolation in the fact that her father was now using his impressive talents for the good of the country. Besides, she had things of her own to worry about. Not the least of which was that things seemed to keep spontaneously combusting when she touched them. This started happening around the time she was thirteen or fourteen and, while it only happened occasionally, she had no idea what might be going on. She had considered the possibility that she was a mutant, but dismissed the idea as too absurd. Mutant powers were simply too rare. Nonetheless, the older she got the more certain she became that she could generate massive amounts of heat, even if she wasn't entirely sure how to turn it on. She kept this fact to herself, worried that her family might treat her differently if they knew.

In the final year of Bill's first term everything fell apart. The press found some interesting records that showed that some money from Bill's re-election campaign was going to his secretary, and, upon further inspection, it became clear that the money was intended for the support of a child that Bill had fathered. The scandal exploded across the national news, and for a few weeks it seemed to be all anyone was talking about. Susan didn't believe it. Her father would never do anything like that! As the evidence became more and more convincing, however, she was forced to accept that her father was, indeed, guilty. Despite this, her mind was unable to wrap around the idea that her father might be at fault. Eventually, she learned to cope by resorting to the belief that no human being could have large amounts of power and not be corrupted by it. It couldn't have been her father's fault, she reasoned, he was merely the victim of a more powerful force than himself.

Ironically, within a few months of reaching the conclusion that all with power would be destroyed by that power, her mutant abilities finally reached full fruition. Unfortunately, even though her powers awoke when her house was empty, she still ended up destroying nearly everything when she accidentally turned into a miniature star. In fact, it was only her gut reflex to try and suppress her powers that prevented her from destroying a whole neighborhood. Unable to hide anymore, she made her powers public, which heightened the media buzz. The daughter of a disgraced senator was what most experts estimated to be the most powerful mutant in existence. It was a journalist's dream come true. Susan was given a reprieve from the cameras and questions, however, when she was turned over to the military so that she could learn to control her powers. She was powerful enough that top brass wanted her to succeed Beatdown as the military's superweapon. They put a lot of money into the research and development of a suit for her that could survive the incredible heat that her body generated. Even though no substance known to man could survive those temperatures, they were eventually able to invent a nanosuit that could evaporate itself away from her when her powers activated and re-form on her when she powered down.

When the draft was initiated, Sol was assigned to live in the base with the other young mutants so that she could become acclimated to her future teammates. Unbeknownst to the military, however, Sol was looking for opportunities to escape. She believed that her power would inevitably corrupt her, and the added power that came with being a superweapon would only speed up the process. She wanted to remain a good person for as long as she could, and believed that remaining with the military was not the right way to go about doing that. When she heard that Arachnid was planning an escape, she decided to join him and his Rusted Gears Initiative. She remains a valuable asset to the team, because she is one of the few members who is on a power level similar to that of top Gavel members.

Well, if all goes according to plan you'll be able to read comics about her one of these days!

I took a look at your OC. She seems to have a decent backstory and the powerset, although lengthy, mostly makes sense. I've never played Crysis though, and I don't know anything about it. Also I've never done anything with OCs in existing universes and I've never quite understood it, so I might be the wrong guy to talk to.

Very cool.  Feminine without skin-tight, nice powerset, and good backstory.

I love me some skin-tights costumes, but you have to mix it up a little or it gets bland.

Truth.  Even so, she's quite appealing, and we get that kind of Samus vibe, what she looks like out of costume.

I like the outfit; it reminds me of armors I've seen in games like Mass Effect. And the color scheme works with dark, toned down colors reflecting the nature of her powers and the "crack" on her chest.

The story works. I don't really have a lot to say, because I usually mention stuff that I don't think works. So maybe you can take that as a compliment. Also there's good irony in the fact how she sees how power can corrupt, just before receiving incredible amounts of power herself.

The one thing I have to comment on is that I'm not seeing any weaknesses. I mean this is a very powerful character, and it kinda raises the question; what can stop her? Like if you're a bad guy, how can possibly combat someone who can transform into a miniscule star?

I'm still trying to come up with a good achilles' heel myself. I think I'm going to give her a time limit for how long she can burn. I also think that it should be harder for her to keep burning the more matter she has thrown against her. For instance, if a building falls on her she might melt through it, but that would drastically decrease the amount of time she could remain in star form. So I guess her kryptonite might be throwing a bunch of shit at her

Thank you! I'm trying to add a little flavor to my designs, which I've been feeling are a bit simplistic.

Indeed I did, but I wasn't sure if I had anything to offer. I've actually been working on a plant based hero whose powers very closely resemble spider-man's, but she's still a long way out. I hadn't really been able to think of any OCs I had come across that matched that description either, except for Anansi. I notice you've already commented on him, though, so I'm not sure who else to refer you to.

Ok, Thank anyway. I'm asking because I've been loving the Superior Spider-Man lately. So much, I've been thinking of making a spider-like hero for my last one. I don't want to copy Spider-man though, so I've been looking for characters who have taken their own spin on spider powers. If done right, I could have a Batman/Spider-Man-like character but something the world has never seen before.

Just be careful how much like batman he is. I hate to put it bluntly, but your track record with taking inspiration from batman has not been good. You're usually much better off with other kinds of heroes.

He's not going to be Batman, more like a dark version of Spider-man
