We even had a pool.Various photos around Camp Nathan Smith in central Afghanistan outside of Kandahar with Task Force Warhorse; 4ID, ISAF, 2011-2012. Camp Nathan Smith was a former Canadian and later American military base in Kandahar City, Afghanistan. Originally, it was an abandoned fruit factory. In November 2003, the site was reconstructed by US Army soldiers of Charlie Battery, 3rd Battalion, 321st Field Artillery Regiment from Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The camp was turned over to the Canadian Army in 2005 and named for Private Nathan Smith of the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. Smith was killed in the Tarnak Farm friendly fire incident.

Part of the interesting heritage of the camp. Built by the Russians during their occupation; taken over by an Afghan Warlord; neglected during the Taliban; fixed up by the Canadians and funded by the Dept. of State (their rooms were right behind the T-Walls, single rooms with baths). The US unit before us kinda muscled it away from the civilians, and boom there we have pool. And it was the BDE HQs also.

The base we were at was an old British base during the Great War. Our barracks was an storage rooms on the sife of the "motor pool" bldg. We built second floors in each room to there were 4 Marine to each. The grunts had somewhat more decent rooms then us.
