Late Merry Christmas Present to the wonderful stephaniedraw

Yet again getting into an uncomfortable zone in my backgrounds with this damn snow and I'm not sure where it took me the longest with this background, different shades for the snow, or how long I spent layering up strands of colors for the long grass in the back ...

I always always always draw Jean when I think of you hahahaa, but I wanted to change it up and draw Hellfire instead as a nice change, originally it was just going to be him by himself but I decided to also add Adam in there for the perfect touch c: Because I also never draw any Adameic characters ever, or their environment ... It's almost like they don't exist to me lololol, he wasn't the easiest because the reference sheet you kind of lose the back and bottom half of him so I entirely guessed with the color tones and his markings were definitely challenging, but all worth it c:

PS: I literally JUST noticed that Hellfire has a cropped mane ... I have no idea why I didn't notice that before ... So let's pretend he grew it out to see if he liked it ?

I'm pretty pleased with this for this being the first piece of 2017 for me, being as I did take a long break ( by my definition of long I mean at least 2 weeks ) of arting, the longer a break I take the more difficult it is to come back to because my skills get a little rusty and it feels like I've forgotten how to draw and background which is a little discouraging & frustrating. It's occurred to me that I literally have not drawn Adam like, ever . Aside from the collab I did with him and someone else's character around the end of 2015, and the only other time I've drawn him is his new reference sheet, I IGNORE MY CHILDREN TO DRAW ZACH ALL THE TIME BECAUSE I AM TRASH. I'm happy with this piece though because I'm deciding for 2017 I want to work on drawing interesting poses & perspectives as well as more interesting backgrounds and for the first time drawing at this angle, I like the way that it came out c:

SAI was not agreeing with me the entire time working on this piece, I was in constant fight with my pen brushes, they're just not stroking or doing anything the correct way and no matter how many times I have restarted my laptop to fix it the problem is still the same so I had to work with the brush as best as I could so I didn't get as much detail in the snow spray as I would have liked too, if the brushes randomly fix itself than I can go back and add tons of flecks and specks of snow detail being thrown up by how hooves would generally splash snow up x) So I had to use a texture charcoal brush from my Sketchbook program and it's decent but I'm not entirely pleased with it
