Description

COSI (Center of Science and Industry) Columbus will be having an exhibit on Prehistoric Flying reptiles this winter, so they are currently accepting submissions to feature art themed around the subject. The prompt was to do your take on a modern flying reptile.

I based mine on a dimorphodon which I always thought was cool because the head is a bit more like a theropod/raptor than the pointier heads like pteranodons/quetzalcoatlus/rhamphorynchus, etc.

So of course, me being me, I made it dragon-ish. I imagine the Neodimorphodon is a larger descendant of the dimorphodon that remained on secluded islands away from the majority of modern creatures. It evolved to be larger in the absence of other creatures that died out and developed a crest of horns around the back of its skull like a horned lizard. It uses its interlocking teeth to catch fish, rodents and whatever else it can catch and may eat fruit or other vegetation occasionally. The scales on the tail developed to be rather long and sharp and used in self defense.
