Ages before, he was a neutral transformer who was friends with who would become Optimus Prime. When he was not offered a chance to be an Autobot like his friend, he renounced what he was and was left with vengeance for them, becoming a Decepticon that made his way to leader. His obsession with power has made him the most feared of the Decepticons.

Mark Hamill was chosen because I am a big fan of his. This Megatron has some similarities with Darth Vader, including his past and torturing his own henchmen. Because of his vanity and hatred for organic life, he is the only Decepticon who keeps his original Cybertronian alternate mode.
