Description A conversation with led me to come up with this. We were discussing how the WDWMagic forum appears to be mainly made up of WDW purists who always think stuff like the stick figure here does about anything new that comes out. And basicly, I'm just sick of being called a bad Disney fan simply because I don't need every ride to be the next Pirates of the Caribbean to enjoy myself.

Too funny! The DOM comments always piss me off.
If the standards they set deem me a DOM then I guess I am one... *shrug*

Now that I've seen the Small World dolls, I can say the hubbub was truly overdone.

I do miss the last scene in Pirates. It's so empty now with just Jack. They should have at least left the two tied-up guards.

But people should be honest with themselves. Most stuff gets replaced because it was crap. Sometimes they replace it with crap, but that's another matter.

I personally found WDW's original ending rather... anti-climactic. But that's my humble opinion.
LOL Too true. Alien Encounter into Stitch anyone? Didn't want to ride it as Alien Encounter, don't want to ride it as Stitch XD

AreteEirene In reply to Dragonrider1227 [2009-02-16 04:53:48 +0000 UTC]

I actually preferred Alien Encounter. The Stitch version is just stupid, and giant five foot Stitch isn't very kid friendly. They need to gut that building and start from scratch. Making new attractions based around that old Mission to Mars theater is asinine.

Nothing was ever as bad as the boat over in Animal Kingdom. It had at least three retoolings in 14 months and was never good. I do think, though, that if they built a dock over by Everest they could at least use it as general transport, for the people who don't want to walk back all that way.

Arete, I'm going to have to disagree with you on Stitch's Great Escape. I don't think it's stupid in any way.

And I think SGE is a much more lighthearted and a far better fit for the Magic Kingdom than Alien Encounter was. And not as many kids cry or get scared in SGE as they did in AE. After all, AE was way too over the top with its gore, major scariness and incredibly-intense violence, especially since most guests expect MK attractions to be mostly family-friendly, lighthearted and gentle in tone, even if they do have their shares of spooky moments here and there.

AE probably would've ended up living longer if it had been built at Disney's Hollywood Studios instead.

I do think AE would have been a better fit over at the Studios. But I stand by my opinion that they need to gut that building and start from scratch. That old Mission to Mars theater is just too restrictive.

I'd like to see something like Mission to Mars. Mainly 'cause I'd love to see a Disney ride about Space travel that ISN'T a thrill ride and doesn't require a height restriction *Not that I couldn't ride it, I'm pretty tall, but I would still like to see it

AreteEirene In reply to Dragonrider1227 [2009-02-16 21:28:12 +0000 UTC]

I can explain it for you, since I'm old enough to have been in it.

You sat in the round theater. Same theater they use now, but the seats were more comfy, sort of (no shoulder harnesses). There was a round port-hole screen in the floor, and another in the ceiling. (Basically where Stitch is now). The seats would vibrate slightly during take off and landing. On the screens you'd watch the earth get smaller and smaller and Mars get closer and closer. And the captain would talk to you. That was about it.

It was by far the lamest thing I have ever seen at Disney. And that's saying a lot, considering. A white round room with vibrating chairs. Yeah.

LOL Yeah. I'm sure that was state of the art back in '71 XD Sounds like a tamer, lamer version of Mission: Space. Which I had always assumed it was. Still, it'd be nice to see space travel rides that weren't also thrill rides.

Have you tried the no-spin version of Mission - Space? It's still rather intense, but lacks most of the stimulation.

I've heard about the no-spin version. I've considered it

AreteEirene In reply to Dragonrider1227 [2009-02-22 02:14:43 +0000 UTC]

Mom and I rode once with a couple - the guy still got sick. The capsule still moves up and down and side to side; it just doesn't spin. So if you have troubles with Star Tours or Body Wars or that type of ride, you should still probably skip it. If not, go for it.

Mission Space is a smoother than Star Tours. You'll probably be fine on it. It doesn't hurt to chew a tums right before you get on, though.

You know his show that used to air on Comedy Central not too terribly long ago? The Root of All Evil? It was a show that had two "lawyers" trying to prove which of two particular subjects was worse than the other. The episode that had Disney in it also featured Scientology. Here's its Wikipedia page. disneyphilip In reply to FigmentJedi [2009-02-13 05:00:34 +0000 UTC]

That is so very true.

MiceAge/MiceChat and the Re-Imagineering blog are definetely some of the WORST Disney sites ever to walk the face of the earth.

It's site like those that I wish would get taken over by hackers and never be seen or heard from again.

FigmentJedi In reply to disneyphilip [2009-02-13 05:14:24 +0000 UTC]

MiceChat has some moments of clarity.
There's one page that's even worse then Re-Imagineering and that's Epcot Central. Guy there is one of the most butthurt park fans ever...

disneyphilip In reply to FigmentJedi [2009-02-13 05:25:22 +0000 UTC]

But that still does not excuse Al Lutz, Kevin Yee and all the Re-Imagineering blog folks (Merlin Jones, Mr. Banks, Captain Schneemo, etc.) from all of their constant crimes and griping that only continue to hurt the Disney fan community and its reputation rather than elevate it.

TsWade2 In reply to disneyphilip [2018-01-12 20:53:56 +0000 UTC]

I have to agree with disneyphilip. Micechat is filled with hypocrites and liars. Once, they announce that Mickey's Toontown and Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree will be replaced by Star Wars Land. They are correct about Star Wars Land replacing Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree, but replacing Mickey's Toontown is false. I don't know about the Re-Imagineering Blog, but I do know that Micechat or Miceage is filled with unprofessional liars and I wish that one these days it'll be shutdown. But it looks like it won't happen anytime soon.
