After the success of the experiment with inked lines [link] I decided to try my non-photo blue pencils with regular pencil lines to see if it still worked.It does! Look at that! Not a sketch line to be seen, and they're all still in the original drawing. Total awesomesauces.
The picture itsef is one I've been meaning to do for a long time...I really like it when it rains. Not in the emo "I'm only happy when it rains" sense (though I do like that song) but in the sense that rain genuinely makes me feel happy. It puts a smile on my face a lifts my spirits. But this is something people just don't get, and I can't explain it (what nut would be happy that it's raining? yeesh!) so I thought "a picture's worth a thousand words" why don't I draw it?
So I did. This guys isn't anyone. He's not a character anywhere. He was just constructed for this picture. So there's no story to him. The idea with the blood was that the rain was washing it off his face. Doesn't quite work, but I'm still happy with it. I like drawing ruins.
He looks kinda like a pirate *laugh* that wasn't intentional.

He looks great! I can see how the rain is washing the blood off his face and I love how there's a difference in the saturation of the colour of the blood based on where the rain has hit him.

Thanks so much! Sadly, I don't expect the softer colors to last long, I tend towards the more brilliant ones, I really had to reign myself in to make these as muted as they are. (In fact, they ARE brighter than they appear, I put a layer overtop to dull it all down

I love the rain too. Very nice pic, I love the BG and the color effects and the expression on the random character's face. Pretty much sums up my feelings on rain.

I'm glad to hear so many people understand the sentiment. Often when I mention it to people, they just look at me like I'm nuts.
I'm happy with this piece all around, since I even put some effort into the background for once. It seems I actually achieved the coveted "picture worth a thousand words" effect I'm looking for.

My sister saw the picture on my computer while it was still in progress.
Her: "Who is he."
Me: "He's nobody, I just created him for that image."
Her: "He needs a story"

Ooh, I love the colors you used, they really do help to emphasize the rain part of the picture. The muted tones make it look misty almost. And I especially love this picture because I can perfectly put myself in his position (not the bleeding part!), but both physically and emotionally. It's nice to let the rain fall on your face.
Oh, and the title, from 'Rain', right? I love that song.

And I'll say it again, I love the muted colors. It's very different from most of your works, and you did it really well. I'd like to see what else you can do in terms of different coloring techniques!

And thanks for the comment. Yeah, I don't generally do muted colors, but I knew this one needed them. It didn't need to be dark and broody, just light..."misty" is a good word, I'll steal that, and relaxing.

Well, I love it right before when it rains... or even better, before storms! It' s so moody and I actually hop around and laugh, maybe that' s why none of our neighbours greets me?

Haha! That's pretty much how I am too.
Also, my roommates in college used to think I was nuts because I would always go out for walks when it was raining.
And no worries. I'd LOVE to see something from you, but I'm in no rush. Do it when the mood hits ya! Be it a week, a month, a year or longer! WHOO! You'll be happier with it that way anyway, and that'll come through in the picture!

Hopefully school will stay out of this summer, but eventually it will conquer this free time too... I have to do some kind of work related to architecture to get a degree, but this summer is already set up so maybe next year. ^^

I was so happy with the coloring because I tend to use such brilliant colors all the time. I actually managed to pull off one that had a muted pallet. (Though it took some effort on my part XD)

Hahaha! I think you hit the nail on the head there that it "revives". Rain is refreshing, rejuvenating, a good hard rain is like standing under a waterfall - EVERYWHERE! Gotta love it!

Thanks! I tend to color things really brightly, so I really had to reign myself in to keep the colors muted. I think it paid off though.
