Exactly. I'd be annoyed in general seeing my OC on someone else page for decoration but even more so if it was something that I paid for myself.
Well they're using it without permission when it's not free to use and they're also using it when it clearly states that it's not for use by anyone other than the person who paid for it or owns the character etc, so that is technically theft.

arr that's very true. technically with that logic it is, but you never know if dA sees it that way though given how crappy they've gotten with removing stolen deviations. I heard of someone being told that they can't remove the artwork that was stolen because it was edited from the original so it's allowed. like WHAT

Well they should, breaking the terms and conditions of an artist's work is against the law so they'd have to do something about it.
Yeah I did hear that apparently 'tracing' is no longer classed as theft on here anymore or something like that cause you can't copyright a pose - which is true - but a blantent trace over is still theft, they copied what you did to every line.
As far as I know if something you reference is still recognisable as the original image then it's theft.

yeah exactly >> it's like when someone was using my icon? look FOREVER to get dA ass in gear and get it removed... I've also had people use an icon i made for someone else and i asked nicely and they removed. But ti's like c'mon people. not everything you see is free. It's disrespectful, I know when i use anything i always scrutinise the description first.
Yeah it is, but im sure they'd argue that they're not uploading it and just copying the thumb code which is designed for a sharing thing i dunno. you never know with dA XD
yeah how rediculous is that? in the industry it's called plagerisum so it shouldn't be allowed here and definately if you can see exactly where it's come from with no changes.Β

Omg that's like, the thing that pisses me off the most here. I have FREE flippin' icons for people to use and yet they STILL go for commissioned stuff! 
Well to me, it's against my terms and conditions therefore I have the legal right to get it removed regardless of what anyone thinks on the matter so dA need to act on that.
I know, right? Tracing is a good way to learn, don't get me wrong cause I'm sure we've all done it in our early stages but trace stuff that you're allowed to use not just anything and everything you see.

omg i know right? i have free shit too, my problems the opposite those, that my free stuff gets more attention. the artwork of mine that's got all the "highest" stuff like comments and views and that is my free journal doll base DX it's like really? a base is valued the highest out of my work, danm it! but yeah it's worse if they go for commissions, as it's someone esles characters. i guess thieves don't care though :/ i mean they have little morals if they've stolen something XD

My free stuff isn't too popular other than my Eeveelution icons, otherwise they just collect dust for the most part
Very true, people are always going to steal the stuff that catches their eyes the most, whether it be commissioned, personal or a freebie.
Exactly. Whether anyone thinks you're right or wrong - it's your rules for your art. They can't ignore that or they can get into trouble themselves.
That's what I'm saying!! Tracing isn't the best way to learn by far but at the early stages everyone goes through that little phase of thinking it'll help them. I still trace now to be honest but it's my own work I trace and I only do if 1. I'm doing something that is symmetrical - like a face or 2. If I'm drawing tradtionally and I've made too many mistakes - I simply trace over the good parts onto a fresh bit of paper to save me redrawing them.
