Description

After about 4 billion years since the formation of the solar system, most of the planets and other terrestrial bodies had already established thanks to the events that shaped the path of each one, transforming and guiding them to take the form that the nature of gravity, temperature and chaos would force them. At the edges of the solar system the cold pieces of ice are and will remain floating in the void until the end of the sun, and in several cases could always form small planetoids, not much larger than some planet moons or get into the inner solar system as comets; Moving closer to the sun, the jovial titans dominate the environment, arising from the low temperatures and being above all gas without solid surface with turbulent atmospheres, they are not and will not be capable of harboring any form of life, although some of their moons could; finally, in the inner solar system, it shelters the rocky planets, the worlds of solid crust which in one or several could form organic life, however and because of their position, of the chaotic events of the primordial formation of the system, or for reasons of chance, only one of the four is capable of harboring it, the third of a warm atmosphere, one moon, abundant oceans and a stable climate, the earth.

Victims of a universe that needs the right conditions for the emergence of complex organic life, the other 3 planets would be unable to maintain such a life, some hopefully a bacterial or virulent life could be established, but never flourish. Mercury, is a sterile barren hell without atmosphere, torn and probably being the corpse of a nucleus of a planet rather than a planet; Venus, being a greater hell than Mercury, despite having the same size as the earth and even having evidence of a past atmosphere and oceans, its closeness had condemned them to boil to become an oppressive dense atmosphere of corrosive rains, with a rare retrograde orbit caused by some ancient impact, and the lack of a magnetosphere, it is condemned to burn and wither; and finally, Mars, the fourth and farthest of the planets, had in its early days a strong magnetosphere, with warm oceans and an atmosphere like, and being conducive to the emergence of life, although the magnetosphere began to weaken thanks to its core it cooled rapidly due to its size, something that in the long term would cause its atmosphere to be swept by the solar winds, but unlike the first two, it could harbor a bit of hope for complex life for a while. Unfortunately, by a huge collision with a large planetoid object that tore part of the northern hemisphere, had accelerated its deterioration, causing the destruction of the crust in the region, the almost total loss of its magnetosphere, and its habitability, becoming a cold desert of reddish rust and a thin atmosphere.

It would have been condemned to become another of the dead worlds of the inner solar system... But it seems that things turned out differently.

I

700 million years before the appearance of man on earth, when the planet was going through a glacial period that had covered all its surface with layers of ice, and life was being incubated in the oceans for some point in the future to proliferate, Mars remained in its arid and cold state, with a surface full of gigantic volcanoes formed by the expulsion of enormous amounts of matter that would have formed cones several kilometers high, some pits and valleys remaining from the first failed plate tectonics, and several craters that without a moon or a strong atmosphere that stopped them, splashed almost all the surface, with a spectral silence crossed the lands, interrupted by the hiss of the wind.

Suddenly, the ground soon began to shake loudly and not because of the product of a geological event on the planet, the dust was starting to rise abnormally, something that sandstorms or whirlwinds could not do, all pushed from a specific direction, a black shadow was projected on the surface of the planet, covering the afternoon sun, and that little by little it was enlarged, since from the heavens an enormous object descended and landed on the surface. Huge clouds of dust rose around such a structure, a toroid object, at least a kilometer in diameter, a height of 300 meters and a thickness of 100 meters, obsidian colored, bright with a polished surface only interrupted by slits that marked specific divisions between sections, it remained silent and motionless. Only a couple of minutes after the landing, several kilometers away from the west, another of these halos descends in the same way, landing almost aligned to the first, and little by little, one after the other, several of these volcanic black rings, around 18 of these, were put in a line through the equator, forming a belt of black ringed objects around the planet. Subsequently, two more belts each formed of other 18 toroids is formed around the tropics, and finally 2 more individual rings, each, directly landed the poles of the planet, in total, 56 rings landed in the surface.

There was a pause after the last of the rings landed, and eventually, each one began to spread, the 20 sections of which each ring was divided, separated, increasing the diameter of the circle from one kilometer to almost 25 kilometers. What was inside in the middle of each section now unfolded were larger extended sections of spongier look of light gray, which were structured in the same toroid way when they are fully extended and which is divided into many narrower cells. In each of these cells of the whitish part open a series of semicircular openings in the lower area. Each, little by little, begin to produce sound, like a huge turbine, emanate energy in the direction of the center, the area that is surrounded by the toroid, increasing the temperature, and little by little, high temperature bursts begin to evaporate the floor. First the sandy surface, then the frost of the subsoil and little by little, they began to create holes of great depth, each one of these toroids form removing with high temperatures the ground, digging it.

II

With the passing of the centuries after the arrival of the toroids, they continued digging for tens of kilometers through the crust, towards the mantle of the planet, evaporating enough material and throwing the material into the air, for what Mars possesses in this moment a much denser atmosphere formed by soot and dirt that covers a large part of the surface. Sunlight is absent and the only existing light is generated by the holes both in the interior, which is still hot and at high temperatures, as well the high energy expelled by the ring, which at the same time it excavates, projects another kind of energy, a field of "Solid light" to keep the hole stable and not collapse. A millennium after the beginning of the excavations, the planet is in a “nuclear winter” state caused by constant darkness, with huge layers of glaciers and snow composed of carbon dioxide and other materials covering a large part of the surface, except for the area close to the toroid, which is good enough for the snow to fall apart. From the darkened and cloudy sky, several cylinder-shaped structures with conical points, about 16 km in diameter, and at least 40 km in height, are moved by a series of orbs to position themselves on each of the holes, 56 of these huge and cyclopean artifacts. Almost coordinated, all objects descend to the depths of the planet, towards the mantle of the planet slowly, and being positioned in their place, the toroids eventually deactivate the energy fields, causing a large part of the hole to collapse, burying the enormous structures with it. Once the work is finished, the toroids retreat, returning to acquire the shape with which they had arrived on this planet, they rise from the ground, and little by little ascend, never to touch the Martian soil again.

Several years since that, the planet was in complete calm with a sepulchral silence and which the ash has begun to settle on the surface, or part of the lighter particles what makes up this dirt out into space, melting the nearby ice in the equator, forming small streams of water at times, but, unexpectedly, the ground begins to tremble, this time the tremor does not come from another object landing on the surface, but inside it. The ground cracks and bursts of steam and heat come out at maximum speed, and fissure begins to open, expelling a large amount of lava in an explosion that breaks the stillness. For all the terrains, more of these fissures open, and as well, across the planet Inactive volcanoes have started to erupt, all at the same time. Centuries, millennia passed, dozens, hundreds of thousands of years, Mars underwent a brutal transformation that has defaced part of its surface, and what was once an icy planet now burns hundreds of degrees, with several of the sections of the planet completely covered in lava from the interior of the planet, more active than ever before, an activity produced and driven by the huge and enigmatic artifacts grafted under the crust of Mars that act as enormous dynamos that make the mantle flow artificially, and with it the nucleus, heating it and strengthening again the almost extinct magnetosphere.

10 Million years after the digging of the rings and the grafting of the huge dynamo devices in the mantle, Mars now has a healthy magnetic field, its volcanic activity still remains volatile, however, it has begun to show signs of diminishing, with a surface no longer reddish, but of a blackish and brown coloration by the enormous amount of solidified lava on the surface, and is about to adopt another new color. From space, huge amounts of comets and ice from the outside of the solar system are thrown towards the planet, collected for the purpose of recovering the water that was lost by the erosion of the Martian atmosphere, like the great volcanic schism. In some centuries, the atmosphere began to cloud again, but not clouds of dirt, or sand, but water vapor, which condensed and finally began to fall in the form of rain, the first rain in billions of years. In a geological flicker the water began to accumulate little by little, filling the craters and plains, gradually covering volcanic air, forming lakes, seas, and oceans. From the depths of space, a huge spherical object formed of rock and ice, driven by huge artificial artifacts is slowly approaching, and with appropriate maneuvers, is put into orbit around the planet, the moon that will stabilize the inclination of the axis, the tides, in addition to providing a shield against many impacts.

Making a temporary jump into 100 to 175 million years after the arrival of the toroids, Mars has now become geologically stable. Several of the fissures that had formed throughout the planet have taken the form of ridges, ridge, and falls as well other tectonic formations, beginning already a process of plate tectonics and soon a continental drift that will keep the planet healthy in the hundreds of millions of years to come. Although there are glaciers existing in the Polar Regions and the highest parts of the planet, the climate is mainly tropical, with a huge warm ocean dominating the northern hemisphere, and two other smaller seas in the south. With everything already in point, Mars turned from a completely sterile and desert world into a new Eden for life, but what life would conquer this planet? The answer lies in the first settlers who have already begun to settle the last characteristics necessary to sustain a complex biosphere, these early conquerors, cyanobacteria, germs, and several other unicellular eukaryotes and prokaryotes, all from the earth, have been transforming the chemistry of the atmosphere and the oceans for the next wave of colonizers. In a matter of decades and centuries, the ocean was populated by all varieties of the complex fauna and simple flora of the earth during its first era of diversity, the period called by humans as the Cambrian. It began with algae, several planktonic organisms, microscopic animals, among others; then they advanced with animals of small to medium size, until they built the trophic chains in an adequate way, collecting several species for a period of one million years...

III

After having introduced the last species from earth and begin the final preparations, the creators of this plan, the architects of the resurrection of Mars admired the result from some point of space orbiting thousands of kilometers of its surface, they knew somehow the future of this planet will be the emergence and flourishing of a complex biosphere. They had seen the potential of Mars to house life in comparison to the other two rocky worlds, an opportunity that could not be wasted. They knew at first that one day something like them might emerge on earth, not advanced enough, but intelligent, which could have tried to terraform the planet and add their own ways of life, but they would only do it as a "draft" of their early colonization of space, they would not bother to maintain it in the long term, and above all, without visualizing a way to maintain a magnetic field or create plate tectonics, they would forget it in the following eons, letting it wither again, and it would remain dead until the star of this system began its final destruction. There were probably thoughts of establishing only simple single-celled life or non-complex creatures and letting life take many more alien paths, however, the artificers of Mars knew that these would take a long time to evolve, to the point that probably when the earth has evolved its first sophont creatures, the smaller planet would be in a quite primitive state, with microorganisms no more complex than sponges or jellyfish, and without something more complex, those conquerors of earth would not bother to preserve them, so they would try to terraform to their liking, and probably they would destroy this initial work, so it left them no choice but to take the complex life of the first great epoch of diversity, to be at the same level of complexity. Now with two planets with the same life forms, completely divergent lineages will emerge, results of quite different events and situations, waves of radiation of fauna and flora will arise by millions and will die by millions, for each of the survivors, their descendants will conquer again and they will expand, until at some point, something will emerge with enough intelligence to conquer everything, both in their world and in the other. These beings in solidarity with life know that something will happen, but they do not know how or why, and they will not know it because they are not going to stay, since they have to attend to different matters in another place, probably never to return. Meanwhile, beneath the surface of the boreal ocean, a small Anomalocarid managed to capture a long early chordate, which was not agile enough to evade the voracious predator, and as he begins to chew on his victim with his elaborate mouth many of the bright lights above in the sky, are fading away from the horizon.

Is already the end of the Mars revivers story here, but for the little Anomalocarid, it is simply the beginning of his own story.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The story that has just been told is an unusual one among several that may exist in the realm of possibilities, pretty improbable, but still, it happened in this timeline, thanks to enigmatic and unknown beings who put time and effort into reviving Mars, those we have no known name, and we do not know the reasons or ends behind this aberrant elections, and after all, it is irrelevant for the moment, what was done, was done, and the point of This story for now is to see what will happen, not "why" it happened. Everything was established for a totally divergent, alien, but at the same time familiar world, a completely different turn of the alternative evolution, here, from a Martian Cambrian.
