Description
Well here is another considerable addition to the spec size chart which are the 18 human species that appear in the novel "Last and First Men: A Story of the Near and Far Future" written by Olaf Stapledon. I had tried to build a chart almost a year ago , being an attempt of photomanipulation, however I was unsatisfied with the poor result of the first one so I started drawing this second since I'm more use to draw humans.Unlike my first attempt I read the book a few times more to have a better idea about the descriptions to get better interpretations, in this case it is a balance of my own ideas of how they would look like and what was already written. (btw some of the designs were inspired from the interpretations of vanga-vangog so don't think I just copied him)
I had also wanted to portray the fauna and flora of different times but that could have taken more time so I only set out to do the humans for now.
btw here is some context for the posthumans for people that haven't read the book but are still interested (btw spoilers):
I men: our current human species, Homo sapiens, due to the book was written in the early 20th century "the future" became in a sort of alternative history with various ideological and political conflicts different from those that occurred in our timeline between countries such as France, Germany, China and the United States and the eventual unification of most nations into a single globalized government, the which would fall after 4000 years with the lack of energy resources, yet another human civilization would arise again 100000 years this time in the region of patagonia which would eventually devastate the planet with massive subterranean explosions under the andean mountains, that triggered the whole volcanic activity leaving a handful of survivals on a small part of siberia becoming into salvages.
II men: the second men evolved 10 million years after the patagonian disaster, as the result of the stabilization of the planet, they lived periods of rise and fall of civilizations due to diseases and anatomical problems, eventually during one of these periods of optimal prosperity they would confront an invasion for part of a species of "viral" Martians in progress to colonize the planet for its resources, being these in the end destroyed by the second men who infected them with a pathogen that would also lead to their fall as intelligent species but still being able to survive as mere creatures.
III men: After other 30 million years of complete ferality the third men evolved in a small island continent on the atlantic, smaller but still very skilled, they would rise with a theocratical society as well very immersed in the manipulation of organisms (artificial selection) creating a bizarre collection of flora and fauna, eventually they would engage into creating a new human species based on the modification of the brain tissue, the fourth men, which this would eventually subdue these by turning them into mere drones and leaving a redoubt of its original population intact for experimentation.
IV men: the giant brains were created in the thrid men's eagerness to develop a more advanced human species, being originally one individual created, this helped for a while the third men but would ask to develop more of its kind, eventually they would override their creators and become the dominant species, becoming mostly information seekers and upon arrival at a limit of their recollection they concluded that for a better understanding of the cosmos the original human condition was needed so that these would create the next human species, which eventually would exterminate the giant brains and its drone folk.
(Note, originally I depicted it as a big brain with eye stalks and little legs but reading though the descriptions this was just a prototype that die few years after its conception, eventually the third men developed a method to make the brain grow though the walls of the brain turrent with involved create small holres around the concrete walls and allowing the tissue to grow inside these, IDK if the brain turrent was suppose to be spherical or cylindrical so I I went for the spherical interpretation)
V men: the most advanced and highest of the terrestrial human species, they were created as giant behemoths, almost elephantines looking, with telepathic capacities thanks to the integration of Martian cells with their peculiar properties, they developed a great civilization covering almost the entire planet with a population of almost 10 billion of individuals, they would be able to visualize past events. Eventually they had to leave the earth due to the collision of the moon by colonizing Venus, they would finally be unable to adapt to the new environment, falling into the wilderness.
VI men: these were just a mere descendant of the large V forms, more basic in form, without the martian cells and without telepathic capabilities, they would live for several million years across floating vegetation islands until the rise of minor continental islands on venus, creating and building civilization after civilizations that would fall, starting again from in a similar way to the first men civilizations.
VII men: the flying folk, this was the result of for the fascination of flight of the sixth man, they became dwarfs, with the size of the largest birds (size of a teratornid to be exact) with huge bat wings, only with two functional normal fingers, being more "care-free" their civilization was based largely on abstract concepts the adoration and way of life of flight leaving scientific knowledge and technological development as minor matters and only essential for survival, eventually from these would emerge a flightless form which would develop in a more industrial way completely leaving the flight and taking these flying counterparts to extinction.
VIII men: the pedestrian folk, evolved from the already flightless seventh men they would they would take control of their planet, uniting islands by the use of great roads and paths, developing cities and advancing to the point of developing space flight, in their peak they would discover that their planet would be condemned to destruction by the exponential growth of the sun, so they decided to create a new human species that could withstand the conditions of neptune, the planet chosen to inhabit, meanwhile its species would accept its doom on its homeworld.
IX men: like the VI they were just a minor form of its former ancestors, reduced to endure the harsh conditions of the north regions of Neptune as well the gravity of the planet, but due to the abrupt disasters the brief civilization they settled would fall, becoming wild quadrupedal knuckle-walking creatures that would live in the high gravity environment, they would eventually diversify into new posthuman species creating a new ecology of liliputians fauna.
X men: these were the last descendants of a rabbit-like species that evolved over the last 300 million years after the colonization of neptune, being erect, hairless, they have developed a new group of fingers from their phalanges since the original fingers joined in their knuckle walking position, as they also developed a new brain structure that absorbed the original brain, they would for the next millions of years stay as primitive, until they were obliterated by a microbial disease.
After this tenth men, other 4 species would rise but none are descendant of one of another but relatives, being briefly described I come to do an interpretation of each one
XI men: crouched and tusked, was exterminated for its ivory
XII men: long muzzled, kangaroo looking form, they are recognized to invent the wheel
XIII men: very robust form, more primitive, they exterminated the previous species becoming widespread savages which eventually declined and became extinct for a microbial disease.
XIV men: a mirror species of the first men, these more large brained forms were the most human species to evolve so far, they would been able to develop societies and more advanced civilizations with periods of fluctuation but for a longer period than terrestrial humans for at least 300 million years without biological change, being also able to colonize the south pole thanks to special vehicles that helped them to cross the inhabitable equator.
XV men: this species was convergent to the second men, being massive brained on proportions is briefly established to have been on a long period of social and cultural "immaturity" with both hemisphere at war, eventually overcoming these and creating a world united community, surviving major catastrophes, colonizing space as well trying to end 5 main evils: disease, suffocating toil, senility, misunderstanding and ill-will.
Eventually they would create a new human species to accomplish this.
XVI men: this species was convergent to the fifth men being the first artifical species on neptune, they were cyclopean beings designed to be giants, with bones tissue equipped with artificial elements to support their massive weight, also developing special cells similar to Martians that would allow them telepathy, they added a new pair of eyes on the back of their heads that allowed them to obtain a greater range of vision. Culturally they were able to eradicate the evils misunderstandings, selfishness, insanity, among others, in attempt to fulfill the maximum of the human capacity and archieving a more unified society. Technologically speaking they became enormously advanced like no other species so far to this point, being able to gain control of the planetary orbit that allowed them to modify the original neptune orbits and move it closer or closer to make it more temperate. After 50 million years of progress they eventually learned how to travel though time and enter into ancient minds that lead them to develop greater philosophical dilemmas related to the meaning of time, the mind in relation to the world and reconcile their royalty to life against death, which would drive them to create another species to solve these problems at last.
XVII men: 100 million years after, the sixteenth men created a new species, is so briefly its entry I could assume they were just proto-eighteenth men as they were still conflicted for their own imperfections, so they they agreed to create a new species which succeeded these few hundred thousand years.
XVIII men: the last men, the highest of all these human species, they are titanic, hairy humanoid beings with massive brains, fifth gigantic eye that acts as a telescope, with two pairs of eyes on each part of the head and massive hands with their last sixth finger divided into three minor fingers, able to not only travel back in time but also communicate with past minds. Being philosophers and artists with a very liberal sexual morality they created a civilization that would spread out of their home planet colonizing others across the solar system, creating monumental buildings and structures by the use of exotic and quite resistant materials, besides being able to unify their minds to such a degree to create a unique global consciences, they would face the end of the solar system due to the overheat caused by the encounter of the sun with a supernova that triggered a chain reaction which they couldnt escape, they would be able to send through the space a special virus with the blocks of life in hope that on another planet they can sow life and with it emerge a new "humanity"

But Neptune is a gas giant. Humans cannot live on it without atmospheric stations and/or cloud cities.
And it would be near impossible to terraform a gas giant into a terrestrial planet unless you had unimaginably complicated technology.

I have pointed out in the description neptune is depicted as a super-earth like world rathen that a gaseous planet, the book was written around the 1930s when there was almost no information on what the planets looked like, so it is not unusual for it to be interpreted as a solid planet.
