Description This is based on a reference photo I used from the lovely ~larafairie-stock which you can find here [link]
I thought the pose was wonderful and was instantly inspired! The title emerged due to my becoming mesmerised with the act of painting, which to me is almost like a kind of faery magic in itself.

*EDIT* - I just wanted to say thank you so much to everyone who has given me such wonderful feedback and positive comments about this painting since it got a DD.
I feel really overwhelmed by everyone's kindness - thank you lovely people!

Ella, you've definitely outdone yourself here. This is amazing, I love everything about it espescially the medium and the colors. You've always had a certain magic with colors and it shows here. I love that little pattern in the middle, the "magic" if you will, very cool. I have been playing some video games lately, not spending more time playing them but actually playing the whole library of playstation games and I am seeing a lot of art in some games. This picture reminds me a lot of these character portraits and stuff that you get to unlock as extras in games sometimes (which is a compliment I suppose, they make the gamer work for these bonuses). Anyhow yes, this is great and it will be inculded whenever I buy anything again which is far more likely than my producing anything at this point. aw well, never say never but one thing is for sure, it will be something totally new whatever it is. no more hearts i dont think ??

Hey Chris, as always it's a pleasure to hear from you.
I'm really enjoying working in watercolour, it's so different from the textures and styles I used to work with in oils or glass but there is something really satisfying about it in a more translucent way... Building up the layers takes time but the longer you spend the more intricacy you can achieve. good fun
Some friends of mine are huge gamers, especially playstation, they're always online playing people all over the world and they talk about all the secret stuff they unlock in games. The only game I've ever played and completed was Jak and Daxter, ever heard of it? very cute graphics. i really enjoyed that. I played Ratchet and Clank too but never got round to completing it. My poor old dusty playstation 2 hasn't even been switched on in about five months and the last time I used it was to watch a dvd.
I reckon you'll get creative at some point when you feel the urge to, until then, just keep enjoying whatever you're doing with you're life. Yeah I think the hearts series was awesome and you created a lot of really interesting images... Whatever you do next I'm sure it will be equally as thought provoking and cool to look at... maybe you could tape some more work colleagues to lamp posts!! (I feel like doing that to a lot of the kids at school actually.... If only it was allowed!)

Wow, amazing colors! I love the overall emotion of it, and the way you executed all of the colors so wonderfully is just so pleasing to the eye. Very great work. I also love how you did a little markmaking as well! Definetly my favorite artwork featured in that fantasy news article!

I love that feeling. When you get so emersed in what your doing and when something finally brings you out of that painting trance you realize how long you've been in it.

This is amazing.

I'm wondering, what paints did you use for this?

T'is a good feeling indeed!
I used watercolours. I've only recently started using them but they give great translucent effects as you add more layers

Awesome work!
I love the way you paint people and I love the way you combine it with fantasy! I think watercolour seems to be a great medium for showing the magic; all translucent and "floaty"
I love the little dots and, what I now consider your trademark, colour blends

DragonTreasureArt In reply to tazoftazmania [2007-03-27 18:05:38 +0000 UTC]

Cheers Taz, that's such a lovely comment.
i think you're right, the translucency of watercolour definitely lends itself to fantasy, and I am really enjoying experimenting with it. I used to marvel at people who used watercolour, i feel like such a novice but it's great fun.

...My trademark colour blends... You mean where I can't help but use nearly every shade in the pallet because I'm such a bloody colour junky?!!

Oh my gosh, so nice. >.< I'm more of an illustrator, not so much painter. That doesn't really come in handy sometimes. *sigh*

I like how you blend your colors together to make the swirl effect. It's nice.

maybe you should try different mediums, you never know what you can do until you try it

Haha, I love watercolor though. It's such a nice media to work with. I'm okay with it, but so far, I like charcoal and color pencils the best. Occasionally markers, but yeah.

the colros are so wonderfully beautiful! I love getting drawn into this picture; her scerene and happy face; how she is experiencing this ownderful fea magic, and letting me experience it too! i loe how, artistically, the tiny red point on her cheek, connect to the mysterious shapes in her petite hand; is that the fearie? It's a very good respresention of the playfulness and happiness that a person could feel. Stunning!

DragonTreasureArt In reply to FerretBento [2007-03-25 13:16:31 +0000 UTC]

That was such a lovely comment, thank you
Yes the 'thing' in her hand can be considered to be what the viewer wants it to be, either a faery or faery magic of some kind, but I wanted it to be a good feeling coming from it, nothing sinister. Yes the red dots are to indicate her being drawn into it's magic, connecting with it, hypnotised by it.
Thankyou for enjoying the painting
