Ironhide noticed the look of discontent on Ratchet's face as the yellowish and red female shifted her muzzle in the dirt. Her belly leaned over to the side, slightly swollen and round, it was clear that Ratchet felt some kind of discontent with her position. She didn't know how to lay, on her stomach or off to her side. If she had been diagnosing someone else, then this wouldn't have been such a problem. But the feeling of having this small ball of life inside her core made her feel uneasy and skittish, afraid to move too much but afraid to move too little. Should she lay with her legs stretched out to the side? Should she lay completely on her side? What about on her back? No, that'd be too much weight on her back... She let out a heavy breath of frustration, her ears pinning back as she rested her muzzle between her paws.

Ironhide smiled, having expected such an attitude out of his friend. Or... Mate...? It was still slightly strange calling him... Her... His mate. But, he couldn't deny the fact that he loved her.

"Ratch?"

Ratchet shifted her blue gaze to glance at the shadow that loomed over her. She sighed, not in annoyance, but again in frustration and also slightly discomfort as she tried to shift her hind legs. She felt a familiar touch to her shoulder as Ironhide pressed his nose against her fur. She lifted her head, slowly, and breathed slowly as he lifted his muzzle and nuzzled his cheek against hers from behind.

"It'll be okay, Ratch..." Ironhide assured.

Ratchet stared off into space, her mind swirling with doubts and possible regrets. She tried to see the good side of this, to imagine how their pup would look like and how happy they would be. Ironhide had always wanted a puppy of his own again, even since Chromia. Ratchet was happy to give Ironhide what he wanted, but... She couldn't fight this anxious shake that took hold of her.

What exactly would Unicron want in return for this agreement? This was never exactly determined between the two, before Ratchet was turned female. While this was never clarified, this all the more planted the ball of dread in the pit of her stomach, and sent her fur bristling in fear. Not only that, she also felt guilty for lying to her pack. When she made the deal with Unicron, she lied to them all and said she had made a promise to Primus, praying for some kind of peace and a means of making a puppy. Her love had taken over her state of mind, and she made a decision that she could not take back. With Unicron, there was too much to lose; her friends, family, Ironhide, their future pup...

"Ironhide..." Ratchet spoke in a voice that he strained to keep soft. "You said that no matter what happens, you will always be at my side, and look after our pup... Right?"

Ironhide lifted his gaze to meet Ratchet's, and he nodded when a look of demand showed in his eyes. "Of course I will. Why do you say that? What is wrong?"

Ratchet looked down at her belly, finally having found a decent, comfortable position to lay. "Nothing is wrong..." he assured meekly. "Everything is and will be fine..."

Me and antubis had a talk a while back and she suggested a plot: what if Ratchet wanted a puppy with Ironhide, and made a deal with Unicron to make him female so this could happen? I like this idea, and couldn't help but make a scribble of the idea and write down a small story piece. You can see pictures of the puppy in antubis' gallery, take a look!
